Dulce Et Decorum Est

In the poem, Dulce Et Decorum Est, Wilfred Owen utilizes sinister imagery and a dark tone to illustrate the idea of, “To make a sacrifice for a cause you believe in, it isn’t always sweet and fitting, rather it can be gruesome and unecessary. Owen uses very descriptive language of what seems to be a soldier slowly dying from gas. Throughout the poem he describes the soldier as; blood-shod, drowning, guttering, and he writes, “the blood Come gargling from the froth corrupted lungs”. Owen is telling the reader that the soldier’s death was a slow and grisly one. This descriptive language also provides information on what the soldier looks like.
