Senior high was a big struggle for me. Being inundated with new information at a rate that I have yet to acclimatise to, I was falling behind, lost in this rat race. I recalled feeling depressed often and my stress level was constantly high as I barely managed to scrape through the tutorials with minimal understanding. As more and more lectures and tutorials flew past, my doubts only snowballed. It came to a point whereby I was so overwhelmed by everything, I just broke down.
Teachers became my helpline in this war zone. I approached my economics teacher for help, thinking that she would be able to clear my doubts for the subject. However, this was what she said.
“There is nothing I can do to help you”.

There were many instances whereby he sacrificed his personal time and tutored me after school hours till late when nearing the A levels in the school canteen. He went through the entire ten-year series as well as various schools’ past year papers with me patiently to make sure I had more exposure to the different types of questions asked. He would also spring provoking questions to test my understanding and allowing me to reminisce the joy of discovery I had as a kid. More than just passing information, he shared his wisdom and experiences. I vividly remembered that his motto was “When everyone gives up on you, you cannot give up on yourself” This spirit encourages rather than intimidate me even though more challenges were ahead. He was always very positive about the small improvements I made and spurred me on with encouragements to continue these small steps and persevere through the A levels.
