Purpose: Find the strongest paper towel brand when wet.

Background: Paper towels are used for a variety of purposes. Some of which include napkins, absorbing liquids, cleaning messes and more. For paper towels to effective, they must be relatively durable while wet. However, paper towel brands make it hard to tell which is the most strong by claiming that they are the most durable.

Hypothesis: If we add weight to each piece of wet paper towel, then I think Bounty will hold the most weight.

Materials:
3 sheets each of Bounty, Viva, Sparkle, and Bounty paper towels weights 4 rubber bands
4 plastic planter pots scale water

Procedure:
1. Collect all of your materials.
2. Soak one sheet of each brand of paper towel in water for 5 seconds. Do not wring out extra water.
3. Cover top of planter pots with one of each wet towel and wrap rubber band around the top of the pot, over the paper towel.
4. Add weights one by one to the middle of the paper towel until it breaks.
5. Collect weights from inside pot and weigh the total on your scale. Do this same procedure two more times for each brand.

Data: Observations: In trials for Bounty, the towel grew in size, no rips. In trials for Brawny, no drips, no rips. In trials for Viva, it expanded in water and dripped, no rips. In trials for Sparkle, towel had more fold lines and did not hold much water, dripped a bit, no rips.

Some methods of separation, such as filtration, sedimentation, decantation, extraction, and sublimation were discussed earlier. This experiment is designed as a quantitative evaluation of your individual laboratory skills in carrying out some of these operations. At the same time you will become more acquainted with two fundamental types of chemical reactions -- redox reactions and metathesis (double-displacement) reactions. By means of these reactions, you…
