ago, I assisted in starting a yearly canned food drive to benefit the Wilton Food Pantry.
This year, we collected a total of 380 cans for the food pantry.
It was an amazing feeling to give to the community in that way. I was selected as the master of ceremony for our yearly Veterans Day Assembly this year also. It was an honor to be able to lead the assembly and make sure that the veterans were honored for their true acts of bravery. Also through National Honor Society, I planned a Red Out at a basketball game, a Cardiac Ball, and a 3-on-3 tournament in order to spread awareness and collect donations for the American Heart Association. We ended up raising 2,000 dollars for such a great cause!
What other volunteer work have you done in the community (may or may not be affiliated with the National Honor Society)? A lot of my volunteer work has been through National Honor Society: the Red Out Events, the canned food drive, working at the Snack Shack during the summer, etc. National Honor Society is great because of all of the volunteer work that is available to you. Aside from National Honor Society, I have volunteered for Girl Scouts, the Christmas Festival, and the Junior Classic for the past four years!
Why do you feel that you are deserving of this
scholarship? I feel that I am deserving of this scholarship because of how devoted I have been to our chapter of National Honor Society. NHS has been a huge part of my life and I am so happy that I was able to be a part of such a great group, while also making a difference within our school and our community!
If you are chosen, what will you do with the scholarship money? If I am chosen, the scholarship money will go towards my college career! I will be attending the University of Iowa to major in psychology on the pre-med track and then hope to attend medical school to become a psychiatrist. I will have many years of schooling ahead of me!
