In 1979, Miyako Ishiuchi received the Kimura Ihei, the most notable Photography Award in Japan, which brought her international recognition for her captivating post-war japanese photography. Many years later, with much more artwork in her portfolio, the Getty Museum in Los Angeles opened an exhibition with the largest collection of her work outside of Japan (Tate). Sula's Behavior Analysis

    • 362 Words

Sula’s behavior was important to the community’s growth. According to Margulies “Morrison describes how the fictional community of Medallion, which had shown concern for all of its members when the temptress Sula lived to entice people away from the community, fell into indifference toward its members when Sula died” (23). The abrupt change in the community’s actions shows how important Sula was to the community. Her presence gave Medallion a reason to treat other people better. The community did not like the way she treated other people and took it upon them to be superior. She brought ideas to the community that they were not ready to understand. Her actions stated that sex did not have to be meaningful. Her conversations intrigued…

“I’ll not consider any marriage a greater benefit than your fine leadership.” (Lines 722-724) Haemon states as his father tells him of his ill-fated bride. Though Haemon begins with remark we soon learn that this is just a mask to get Creon to listen. In this story of weaknesses and love Haemon’s ideas, words, and actions contrast with those of of his father Creon to the point of causing conflicting motivations between them both. Conclusively these clashing motivations develop Creon as a tragic hero by ultimately losing his temper and thinking irrationally as his father does. These character interactions advance the plot and develop the theme by proving that even from Haemon’s own wise words and Creon’s power both of their weaknesses ultimately prevail.…

I never used to write. In fact, I didn’t much like it. Little did I know that writing would become obsolete and a physiological requirement for the well being of my life. From an early age on all I did was read. I grew up in an isolated environment where books were my escape, and escape was necessary from the hardships of home. I remember being a young seven-year-old boy wearing a pillowcase around my neck fastened with a pen. I was eating animal crackers at the time, and my step dad was calling out for me. I stood up from my crouched position and raised my hand as I learned from pre-school, and said, “ I’m here daddy.” At that moment my step father grabbed me by the cape harshly compressing my trachea purposefully, shaking me back and forth with his hands around my neck as I began to choke on the appetizing cracker animal crumbs within the back of my throat. I didn’t understand at the time what was really going on. My mother came out of the room and my dad acted as if nothing happened and told me to…
