In the short stories Araby” by James Joyce, and “Everyday Use” by Alice Walker, they both have main characters that are dynamic throughout the story. A dynamic character is an individual whose traits change towards the end of a story. Both the narrator from “Araby” and Mama from “Everyday Use” are dynamic protagonists who gain epiphanies that lead the characters into either positive or negative realizations. The narrator in “Araby” is a dynamic character who changes from being obsessive and naïve and then becomes wise at the end, and Mama is a dynamic character who changes from being intimidated and then becomes courageous.
