Because of many wars between and inside Africa’s countries the criminality rises, therefore rebels use often children soldiers to fight e.g., for their mineral resources like gold and diamonds. Although the U.S. government support Somalia soldiers, they are against the use of children soldiers. However, the Somalia government admits that “ they are trying to find anyone who could carry a weapon”. Furthermore it is difficult to find out how old the children are.…
A dystopia (from the Greek δυσ- and τόπος, alternatively, cacotopia, kakotopia, cackotopia, or anti-utopia) is the vision of a society that is the opposite of utopia. A dystopian society is one in which the conditions of life are miserable, characterized by human misery, poverty, oppression, violence, disease, and/or pollution.…
According to the Oxford English Dictionary, dystopia is an imagined place or state in which everything is unpleasant or bad, typically a totalitarian or environmentally degraded one. The genre of dystopia is clearly illustrated through the short stories of “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, “Harrison Bergeron” by Kurt Vonnegut, and “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson.…
"Most dystopian, classic and contemporary, points a future world that puts a twist on present society - a future world that could plausibly happen." - Lauren DeStefano. Dystopia means the place, state, and/or lifestyle that is imperfect, bad, or hell-like. In the science-fiction book, Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, their dystopian society meant there was no books so that everyone was equal, but this back-lashed on them. Fahrenheit 451 had a dystopian society written to scare us and show us some of our societies biggest fears, but what if this idea of dystopia has already presented itself upon our own society cloaked to many but visible to few.…
As the poem went on, it seemed to shift from youthful optimism to the realities of being an adult and crushing their youthful optimism. From line ten to the end it takes about the speaker’s home life and it seems like they aren’t aware of the reality around them. Their father had gotten out of the hospital and they didn’t seem sympathetic towards him, the speaker seemed to focus on the fact that they got to move into a new house and didn’t have to live in an apartment anymore. “We’d moved / from the apartment over the store / into a house with a front door. / I wanted people to ring the bell / and I’d answer it like on TV.” (ll 16-20). The speakers father has just been brought home and all they can focus on is opening the door like the people…
In the end with all f this information we have a basic idea of how some things such as government, and basic human lifestyle is affected by a dystopian society. The Massacre that was held in Boston Massachusetts on March 5, 1770 was a small yet horrific event. It started out as colonist teased and taunted the British soldiers. They also threw rocks and whatever else they could throw at them. The soldiers reacted to this by firing back at the colonist killing five people, three were killed on impact and two died later on, several were wounded. Immediately after, the colonist disappeared and the soldiers reported back to their barracks. Even though we cannot be exact on what happened for sure about what happened that day; some eyewitnesses claim they heard the commander tell the soldiers to load their weapons and fire. Some evidence proves Captain Preston’s innocence of not commanding the soldiers to fire, and that it was done in the heat of the moment (Martin Kelly).…
The use of child soldiers is one of the most blatant abuses of international human rights. There have been a number of treaties that have tried to prohibit these practices, but the use of child soldiers has become more prominent and occurs in approximately 75% of conflicts around the world. Primary causal factors of recruiting children are: social disruptions due to globalization, disease and war which has resulted in further global conflict and generation disconnection which has created a pool of possible recruits and technological improvements with fire arms becoming smaller and lighter allowing children to be more effective. With low draft turnout, conflict leaders see the recruitment and use of children to be a economic benefit. It is low…
Different societies have risen and fallen in the continual search for the “perfect” society. The definition of this utopia is in constant flux due to changing times and cultural values. Many works of literature have been written describing a utopian society and the steps needed to achieve it. However, there are those with a more cynical or more realistic view of society that comment on current and future trends. These individuals look at the problems in society and show how to solve them with the use of control and power. Such a society is considered undesirable and has become known as dystopian society.…
You can find great examples of dystopia in movies and books. The term Dystopia was created in the 18th century when people were about to realize the meaning of their lives and tried to pick out how cruelled and injustice this world was. Writers aren’t afraid of expressing their ideas, therefore, they sacrifice their time to think deeply more that other humans do and criticize our way of life that may take us nowhere in the future. There are a lot of different ideas that took writers to think of; pollution, letting other control you, and…
“Every daring attempt to make great change in existing conditions, every lofty vision of new possibilities for the human race, has been labeled Utopian,” In order to have a perfect society, change for the greater good need to be made.Unfortunately, instead of a Utopian society, it becomes a dystopian society. The reason that Utopian societies are bad is because everyone has to be equal for no one is better, and all autonomy is lost.…
Thousands of children are serving as soldiers in armed conflicts around the world. Boys and girls serve in government forces and armed opposition groups. They may fight as front-line combatants, suicide bombers, mine sweepers, sex slaves, and spies. Many are abducted or recruited by force, while others join voluntarily, believing that armed groups offer their best chance for survival. We are working to prevent the use of child soldiers and to hold accountable the people who send children to fight. It threatens the core of the United Nations, and the heart of our world's future: Children. The US Child Soldiers Prevention Act prohibits the US government from providing…
“I still dream about the boy from my village who I killed. I see him in my dreams, and he is talking to me, saying I killed him for nothing, and I am crying” (Sierra Leone Rebels Forcefully Recruit Child Soldiers; 1). These are the words of a sixteen year old demobilized child soldier, forced to join an armed rebel group in Sierra Leone. Around the world there are over 250,000 youth being forced to become child soldiers; they are taught to be cruel and they believe what they are taught is right. This injustice is occurring on a large basis, in the African nation of Sierra Leone, where children are recruited incredibly young, lack education, become thieves and indulge in child prostitution.…
The year is 2085, twenty prolonged years have gone by since the explosion of the A-14 EMP device went off in earths crust surrounding the United States of America. The United States of America that is now split into two parsimonious parts, one named the New California Public, while the other the Enclave. The A-14 EMP was set of as a terrorist attack against the United States by the combined forces of Russia and China. The reasoning behind their madness was the everlasting debt the United States owed to them as the years matured. Since 2025, the United States had been fighting with themselves in a money crisis that seemed interminable. The presidential system was terminated by the year 2039, when President George F. Peterson caused another 4.2 Trillion Dollars in debt towards the Soviets. And by 2055 hints of war began to strike between United States and China. What sooned followed after was China becoming complete allies with the Russian forces. 2065 was when the devastation occurred. Every since that day the remaining creatures in the United States have fought to survive. The world they once knew has become a waring fight for survival. With the new split in the United States the people are worrying when a feud will occur, and also which side to stand for.…
It was an organized line with people dressed in various clothing. Some were wearing clean t-shirts with ironed out jeans and others wearing ragged pants and a dirty t-shirt. All of the people in the line had a small number tattooed on their wrist followed by some letters like they were cars with a license plate (OFL). As Jason looked at his watch he complained, “What’s taking this line so long? I have places to be people!” No one acknowledged him. Not everyone had a place to be. A few minutes later, Jason eventually got his lunch. He decided to eat and walk at the same time./…
