The 54th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, nicknamed the "Swamp Angels", was an infantry regiment that saw broad administration in the Union Army in the American Civil War. The regiment was one of the main authority African-American units in the United States in the Civil War. Numerous African-Americans had battled in the American Revolution and the War of 1812 on both sides.…
I am beyond interested in having a career as a biomedical engineer, more specifically dealing with its rehabilitation aspects. It would be an honor to have a career involving a connection to the Wounded Warrior Project. In fact, biomedical engineering was the inspiration for my senior project, the product for which I designed and 3D printed a prosthetic leg. Granted, it was a simple design, but that is why I want to study it at WSU. I want to advance my skills to prepare myself for this field. The Wounded Warrior Project provides great inspiration for me, and being able to do what they do is a dream of…
It was then I had a sudden, shocking realization. Everyone who came, all thirty-five people, were here because of me and my vision to help the community. This project was born because of my idea of helping restore the church property and, hopefully, improve the relationship between the troop and the church. But, this was all mine and I took the helm and guided it through the murky, rough seas to get it to this point. I learned I could be a leader and both adults and my peers respected me, saw my dedication and determination, and followed my lead. This realization brought a smile to my tired, dirty face, and gave me a boost of energy to help me finish off the…
It is a great honor to be nominated in an esteemed club of NBTHS, which idolizes the importance of academic excellence and values leadership, service and character. Becoming a member of the National Honor Society would not only mark an achievement in my high school career, but would also reflect the hard work and effort I have put into maintaining my grades and developing a respectable character. The NHS gives me a great opportunity to help the community and display my character to its full potential. As a student, academics has been one of my top priorities and maintaining a certain grade in each of my classes has been an objective that I have done to the best of my ability to complete. If I get selected into NHS that objective will be justified and I will acquire more opportunities to improve my community and share my knowledge with others in NHS. After not getting accepted into National Junior Honor Society in middle school I made it a goal that in high school I would possess the attributes to get into NHS.…
In this essay we are going to discuss the things I would change if I was the commander for one day and the lasting affects the changes would cause. The process for phasing up, everything you do as phase 4, the acg shift and the way the sixty-eight alpha course is done are all things I would change and will discuss in this essay.…
“The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things.” Ronald Reagan’s words provide me with a vision and the motivation to serve others by equipping them with the tools needed to reach their full potential. I have always worked hard as a leader to inspire others. I understand that I must be bold enough to have my own vision but humble enough to recognize achieving it will take the efforts of many people. I believe that we must work to together to keep America strong and ensure freedom for future generations, and I believe this is done through great leaders. The American Legion Auxiliary Girls State provides young women like me a deeper understanding…
When the Civil War broke out and men were needed to serve in the war, the government used conscription, the mandatory induction of men into the military.1 Though some people use this word just like the word draft, the two concepts are different. Draft is the process to determine who will be chosen to serve; it’s like a lottery. Currently, men ages 18-25 have to register with the Select Service with the possibility of serving in the military,2 but conscription itself was abolished in 1973.3…
Thank you Dr. Hammond for leading the Eagle Charge and thanks to everyone here today for coming to help celebrate this great accomplishment. I would also like to thank all of you who have played a role in helping me along the path to achieving the rank of Eagle Scout especially my parents who have supported me throughout my journey. I most probably wouldn’t have been able to get to where I am today without your support. I would also like to thank my Scout Master Mr. Newhouse for not only helping me achieve my goals but also for dedicating your time and energy to the rest of the scouts of troop 5 so that they may also succeed on their path to Eagle. Finally, I would like to that The Boy scouts of America for proving an organization to educate young people to become productive, responsible, and more citizens in the community.…
I would like to immensely thank each and every one of the donors for the Marine Corps Scholarship for providing the funds for not only myself, but many others, to allow us to achieve a post-secondary education. Without their generous contributions, many of us would not be able to continue—or even began—our path to higher education. My gratitude cannot be expressed enough to the donors for allowing me to continue my college education.…
I woke up feeling physically, mentally exhausted from the day before, packaging meat and cleaning crates for Second Harvest Food Pantry. We sorted and pack meat. I did not think I could look at meat ever again. We then had to cleaned crates, after crates of what use to have food in them. It was a new day, and we had to return back to work. My mission group and I were going to River Food Pantry. I had no clue what to expect. I finally learned we would be serving homeless people. The only thought that crossed my mind was I would be serving dirty, lonely people, but I later found out that I was wrong.…
There are many people not only from our country that have served in the United States military, that eventually conclude their term to be released from the armed forces to then be considered a veteran. Those that have served and even though considered a veteran for serving in the military can only receive a veterans’ preference based on their dates of active duty service, and if they are discharged under an honorable or general discharge. Some would think that this preference is given to any who have served but then again for those that do not meet the qualifications they are not given the privilege. The veterans’ preference is remarkable to have since its benefit after serving to assist in finding a job after being separated from the military…
Nearing the end of my road to the Eagle Scout award I am finding that my purpose in life is becoming more clear. Through scouts and the other activities that I have surrounded myself with, I have come to realize that I want to be a leader. In the leadership positions I have held I have picked up so many skills that I am going to use in my life. I don’t just want to be one type of leader though. I would like to be a leader in the workplace, morally, and within my family. It only seems right to keep my life going in that direction.…
National Junior Honor Society is a great opportunityfor me; something that I am really excited to have. I wouldlove to be involved in NJHS and share my ideas/listen toothers ideas about fundraisers and collecting donations, etc. I love helping the needy and have participated incountless things. For example, I made bears for those whohave to live in hospitals and helped throw a Christmasparty to give them their bears and play games, I havecleaned up a junkyard full of trash, sang to elder people, read to little kids, cleaned a baby orphanage and take careof them for an afternoon, and I am currently finishing up abedspread I am planning to donate. I love to see peoplehappy when they see someone helping them, and Iabsolutely love babies and children.I love being in charge of things. Many teachers andpeople have told me that I have great leadership skills andthat I use them well. I am the secretary of the studentcouncil. I have been called the leader of some of my studygroups and captain/co captain of some lunch sports. I loveto be at the top of things, get them done on time, and dothem correctly.I think that I am doing well in school and keeping up. Ihave done pretty well in past grades. I currently have A’sin Science, math and science, over 110% in Language artsand over 92% in Social Studies. That is ok for me and I’mtrying to do better in many classes but I’m feeling greatwith my Language arts grades. My GPA last semester wasa 6.8 I think. My lowest grade on a progress report in 6…
For a girl who is use to achieving at everything she does, it was a great astonishment when I heard I didn’t make it into National Honors Society. I have never felt such like a failure before. When I first started high school as a freshman I have heard of National Honors Society because my brother was in it so I wanted to be in it as well. At my high school you can only be invited into it as a junior. To be invited into it you must have had a 3.5 GPA or higher.…
It was during 1919 in Paris after World War 1 had just finished, when the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies was founded (IFRC). The idea of having such a symbol as a Red Cross came from Henry Dunant in 1859. It all started when Dunant witnessed a bloody battle scene in Solferino, Italy. Over 40,000 men laid dead or wounded in the battlefield without any medical help. It was from there and on when Dunant became determined to pass the Geneva Convention, which would eventually become the Red Cross association.…
