Earl Thomas was on his way to playing big time football when his hometown of Orange on the Texas Gulf Coast was ripped apart by Hurricane Rita. His childhood home was completely demolished, but he was able to move past the many trials thrown his way after joining the Seahawks in 2010. His story is one of motivation and perseverance.
Earl Thomas was born on May 7, 1989 to Debbie and Earl jr Thomas in the city of Orange in Texas. At 20, he was one of the youngest players eligible for the draft and a little undersized, but his speed, remarkable playmaking ability and a profound level of toughness more than made up for it. On his first season, he finished with 76 tackles, one forced fumble and five interceptions that helped the Seahawks into the playoffs. Earl made the All-Pro team almost every season except for 2016 when he was put on injured reserve with a broken tibia, and the Pro-Bowl in both 2014 and 2011. He was essential in helping the Seahawks reach Super Bowl VIII in 2014.
