Earl Woods
“The night that Tiger won his second U.S. Amateur in 1995, Earl Woods made a prediction. “Before he’s through, my son will win fourteen major championships… “Earl was prone to over-the-top statements… thirteen summers later, Tiger is there. Fourteen“(Smiley 275). Before the quotation is mentioned, Tiger has just won his 14th major championship, and 65th tournament as a professional. The man who says the quote is Tiger Woods’ father, Earl. He is talking to group of reporters, claiming Tiger will be great and be the best in golf before Tiger was even a professional yet. If you fast forward to 2008, the predictions Earl made in 1995 were exactly true. The symbol displayed in this passage is Earl Woods, the father of Tiger. His significance to Tiger is far more than anyone else besides Tiger’s mom, and is a main reason why Tiger is as great as he is today. He taught Tiger golf when he was only two years old, and taught him all he needed to know. He taught Tiger to play golf when golf at the time was a sport only played by Caucasian men, and a sport only played by the privileged since it was a very expensive sport. Yet that did not stop him from teaching his son how to play. Since golf is a sport that when people are hitting, you must be silent, Tiger’s dad helped him improve his mental toughness by doing things such as making noises in his swing or dropping his bag, seeing if he’d be shaken from it. As time went on, Tiger continuously got better, with his dad right by his side every step of the way. As Tiger won his 1st major tournament in 1997, the first man he went to see was his dad. And in 2006, as Tiger won his 12th major, his emotions were very evident after he had won, since his dad had just lost a fight against cancer and won his 1st tournament that Earl wasn’t there to witness. The man that had taught Tiger all his life and helped him achieve his greatness played a very significant role in Tiger Woods’ life.

This chapter introduces the student to China, the only continuing civilization that has its origins in the ancient world. This early period of China laid the foundation for many of the tenets followed by later generations of Chinese. The written language developed early and remained fairly static in its evolution. The development of the religious and philosophical systems of Daoism and Confucianism occurred very early in Chinese history and impacted not only China, but also other areas of Asia. China served as a conduit for the dissemination Buddhism throughout West Asia. Art forms and visual aesthetics developed during this early period as well. When answering the following questions consider three art historical thematic trends:…

As Americans living in the United States, we don 't often get to see or experience what others think of us in other parts of the world. Most can only speculate and wonder. Thomas Swann Woodcock came to the United States in 1830 from England. In his writings, he left us a short passage in his life through the Erie Canal. These writings left us his opinions of what he was seeing in the U.S. as an outsider trying to understand a new land. He couldn 't find his own words to quote what he had seen, so he quoted someone else to say that what he saw was “indescribable.” Thomas Woodcock saw an incredible country that had accomplished great scientific and architectural feats. Yet, he had also seen what horrible lows the American people had succumb to in order to accomplish their feats.…
