Competency Statement VI
To Maintain a Commitment to Professionalism
How my professional practices meet this standard:
To maintain professionalism, I focus on what I want to become: An Intentional Teacher. To be an intentional teacher, one must protect the confidentiality of his or her students and the program they are attending. It is important for an intentional teacher to present her/himself in a professional manner at all times. That includes being to work on time every day, dressing conservatively, possessing a positive attitude and work ethic and use good judgment when making decisions that pertain to the children in her/his care. One must be an advocate for the children in her/his care and their families. One must keep themselves updated on child care practices, research and other developments in the profession. Being an intentional teacher means you are a lifelong learner and anyone in the early childhood education field should continue their education and be informed on the latest practices.
