The earliest Business Services were most likely based around food. When groups figured that they could store surplus food for droughts or conflict, they began to Warehouse. This enabled certain groups to be able to trade food with others in exchange for goods or services. Trading rules were enacted, and the earliest markets were formed. Ancient urban settlements included more complex Public Services. Rulers, large militaries and other jobs were expanded and included a large number of the population. Other jobs including working on construction projects public service were created. Current jobs in the three areas look a little bit different. The most common consumer service jobs include retail and wholesale, as well as education, health and hospitality. Jobs including law, engineering, counting comprise a large section of there business services. And in public service, government employees make up of majority, are all others. The central place is an area that draws people from surrounding areas it could take many different forms, such as a market or a shopping mall. The central place could also be where you would like to locate your business. From the central place there is an area surrounding you which is known as the market area or hinterland. The market area can be represented by a hexagon which shows the market. From there, a range and threshold must be determined. These times are calculated from doing consumer studies. The range being maximum distance someone would limit themselves to travel to receive a good or service. For example in the case of math tutoring you might want to take a survey on families with children and High School and determine how far they're willing to drive so that their children could receive math help. You'd also want to determine a threshold, which is the minimum number of people required to keep your business running. Depending on the type of business and the cost of product as well as the cost of Labor and other factors, you can determine a threshold.
