Naia, a water nymph employed by Poseidon, was collecting water from the river to send to the mortals. Poseidon and Zeus had been fighting for weeks, and for a rather meaningless reason. The gods of Olympus were sick of drinking just nectar, and wanted something that could wash the taste away from their mouths. That, of course, had to be water. When Poseidon refused to send all of his water to Olympus, Zeus erupted in anger and forced his army onto Poseidon’s seas. Naia was supposed to collect water from the sea, but she fled to the river due to the war going on. She wished she could do something to help, but it was no use, she had tried.…

The state of Alabama is the place I call home, but that was not always the case. Being born in Alabama would automatically make this my home: right? At the age of 16—unlike most of the teenagers around—the state of Alabama was not as appealing to as they made it seem. As travel opportunities became prominent; I made ventures to different lands. Travels far and wide were made, but nowhere seemed to draw me in like Alabama. The state is enticing and sometimes I never wanted to give into its charming ways. Stars Fell on Alabama by Carl Carmer shows how captivating the state can be. The legends and folk tales documented by Carmer gave off a special aurora that can still be felt years later.…
Southern music has been an important part of the folk custom; in many ways. It is identical with American folk music. Its history is well documented,(Malone, 1979, 1985; Carr, 1979; Wolfe, 1977).
