Eastern Promises is a story that takes place in London. The story takes place in a world that is governed by open violence and slavery, a location hidden from the public view where kindness, duty and the rule of are the alien intrusion. When a young anglicized nurse Anna Khitrova, received a diary of a Russian teenager who dies while giving birth on Anna’s watchs. She compelled to hunt down the family of the teenager and the kin of the new born baby girl. This bring her face to face with the girl’s keepers.
Nikolai Luzhin a russian chauffer for the crime boss Semyon and his son, the alcoholic and abusively overbearing Kirill. These mans are tough and dangerous- Nikolai is cold and reserved, Semyon is a charmer who’d invite you to dinner before ordering a hit on you, and Kirill bristles with uncontrolled, feckless rage.
These are the man that Anna encounters, fearlessly pressing them on issues most people would probably avoid, and it dawns on her almost instantly that Semyon wants the diary and would probably go quite far to get it. At first he implores her to bring it to him so he can translate it, but a certain creeping threat hides between the words. Meanwhile, Anna entrusted the diary to her cranky old Russian uncle Stepan. Who warned her to stay away from the Vory a Zakone gang. His translation reveals the dead girl’s story, one of the bondage, rape, and unspeakable abuses carried out by her Russian pimps. Anna is terrified by these revelations, but she recklessly pursues the leads with an almost journalistic determination to get the truth and the address of the girl’s families.
During all of this, Anna developed a rapport with the laid back Nikolai, who flirts in his reserved way and provides some aid. Anna knows that Nikolai keeps bad company, might even be a killer, especially with his visible prison tattoos, but the way he looked at her brought her
