Essay: Eating with Immigrants
With “Eating with Immigrants”, Rose Anna Higashi shares us her hobby with her husband – eating. She shares us the interesting things while they are eating at immigrant restaurants. She also makes some comparisons that show us the difference between American’s fast food restaurants and immigrant’s family restaurants.
First, in immigrant restaurants, most of people in places are the first generation Americans such as owners, cooks, serving stuffs, and even customers. In the other hand, in fast food restaurants, there are many different kinds of people, and most of them are Americans. She also compares about food and ingredients which is used to make food. For instance, most of ingredients are come out from refrigerators; but you will not see fresh vegetables, fresh ginger, and nutrition elements like tofu and sprout bean coming out from plastic freezer bags.
In addition, the author also tells us how the people work in the kinds of restaurants. The people in Immigrants restaurants are very busy who don’t have time to put on air. They work together like bees in hive. You’ve never seen “it is not my job” attitude in Immigrants restaurants. They support their customers with their best.
