Echoes Of Pink Floyd: Music Performance Analysis
I experienced the arts by attending a music performance. This performance was on September 16th at 8:00 in Jackson, MI. The music was performed by a band called Echoes of Pink Floyd, a cover band of Pink Floyd. I experienced this performance by personally attending, but I also took a video recording to watch the performance again in order to analyze the performance. The event took place at the Michigan Theatre in Jackson. The venue seemed older and was not very large, but it had comfortable seating. The band played at the center of the theater and had a light show accompanying their music. The sound was loud and the experience overall felt genuine. The light show helped set the mood by creating a fog and having flashing lights. This helped …show more content…
The rhythm expressed typically had a steady tempo with energetic sections. There was a long durations of instrumental sections at the beginning of some of the songs and guitar notes tended to be held for a long time. The melody of the band included pitches that were lower and higher. The male singers tended to carry low notes, whereas the instruments could be heard creating some higher and lower notes. The tune of the music was catchy and also relaxing. The harmonies blended well together, creating a consonant between the singers and the musicians. The form of the songs often contained phrases that would be repeated. Most of the songs followed a similar form of the setup of their vocals and instrumentals and often in the songs the beginning would start with instrumentals and the ending would softly fade out. The dynamics in the songs were typically degrees of softness with rifts of loudness from the guitars or keyboard during the instrumental sections. The vocals could be a mix of softness and loudness throughout the song depending on the message of the words. There typically seemed to be a general softness of the sounds. The tone color involves the sounds of guitars, keyboards, and voices. The vocals are sung in low to medium notes. The tone color blends together nicely to create soothing sounds that sound good in the

An isolated community of the struggling longshoremen living under the exploitation of the corrupted union is introduced in one of Elia Kazan’s brilliant works in filmmaking, “On the Waterfront”. The viewers are moderately convinced, by looking at the mere world of brute force and injustice, that someone has to play the heroic role in order to return justice and hope to the working class on this dock. Edie Doyle seems to stand out among the rest as a candidate with her superior quality possessed from her strong Christian values. Likewise, someone like Terry Malloy who being seen as “a bum” by everyone, also manages to lead the longshoremen out of the ruthless dominance of Johnny Friendly in the end therefore earn his statue of a hero. However, as the viewers follow the development of the film, it is realized that Kazan’s notion of heroism is likely to exist as a fulfillment of self-interest and the victory only stops at a level of personal achievement.…

Throughout Zeds Dead’s performance at Ritchie Coliseum, another sense was thoroughly engaged in addition to the auditory element of lyrics and synthetic instrumentals: vision. Zeds Dead performance had several marked features of visuals that exemplified the sensualistic nature of electronic dance music. Accordingly, “…such syntheses and modulations are carried out in the ‘laboratory’ of the club, where in most cases the pitch-black darkness is impregnated by techno music, a few lights, the occasional strobe and artifcial smoke.” (Vitos, 2). To typify this characteristic of EDM, Zeds Dead included many multicolored beams of light rotating over the cloud and flashing lights typically when the beat dropped, in an otherwise dark room. Additionally, there were designed visuals in the background, typically of a “trippy” rotating vortex,…

The name of the concert that I attended was called “TCU Jazz Combos” and featured a variety of jazz compositions. This concert took place in the Pepsico Recital Hall on November 14, 2012 at 7:00 in the evening. The event was casual; however, I chose to wear khaki pants and a button down shirt because I was not certain as to what the dress code would be. The performers’ names and their respective instruments were Mike Korson- Saxophone, Garrett Wingfield- Saxophone, Luke Wingfield- Trumpet, Alex Neal- Guitar, Edo Frenkel- Piano, Will Gilstrap- Bass, Russell Wharton- Drums, and Tanner Webb- Trombone. During the concert they played various jazz compositions written by some of the very performers themselves. Several other pieces were more well known jazz compositions from internationally recognized artists. The concert itself was not very crowded, with pockets of individuals scattered throughout the audience. There was definitely interaction between the performers and the audience. I found this aspect of the jazz concert to be unique to other concerts. Jazz concerts are significantly less formal than classical orchestra concerts or even piano concerts in which applause is saved for the very end. In jazz concerts, after a solo it is considered appropriate to applaud, even during the middle of a piece. Having never attended a jazz concert before, I found this to be a wonderful learning experience.…

For my humanities report, I attended the Wind Ensemble concert at the Timko Barton lobby on October 8, 2015. The concert was so inspiring and refreshing for me since I love music and am currently studying music. Sitting with some many people and listening to beautiful music from a variety of genres was so restoring to the soul. Dr. John Jenkins, the director, was so motivating in every piece of music and of the program. The concert program ran smoothly as the ensemble band transitioned gradually to each different song piece. In addition the scenery added to the peaceful presence during the show. Since the concert took place in the lobby of the music hall, people saw the bright lights coming from the ceiling and they also enjoyed to majestic surrounding of the large glass windows. The Wind Ensemble concert event was a smoothing time to reflect on…

The first section of the concert was the most delightful and satisfying to listen to. The violins and woodwinds were the main melody for most of the piece. Both instrument made the texture of the beginning very calm and satisfying by playing legato notes that gradually crescendo/decrescendo. The texture made me to feel relaxed and at ease. I would describe the text painting as a calm ocean, the feeling of drifting in calm water. Half way through the piece, the clarinets and flutes began to follow the entire orchestra and its smooth tempo, which inevitably became louder and more powerful near the end of the piece.…

On February 10th I watched the Detroit Symphony Orchestra perform Beethoven’s Fourth and Fifth symphonies at Orchestra Hall in Detroit. Even though the musicians were in Michigan, I had the full experience right inside my dorm room. The webcast was a really interesting experience that I enjoyed. I think I may have even appreciated it more than the real thing. Although you cannot replace getting dressed up and going to a concert, I liked this webcast because the different camera angles provided footage of everyone playing their instrument and if I had been in a seat I would have been stuck looking at the same few people the whole performance.. For example, the conductor would usually have his back to the audience throughout the performance, but since I was not a part of the conventional listeners, his facial expressions were exciting to watch. Leonard Slatkin, the conductor was very into the music, sometimes it seemed like he was a one man show, acting out the music on the stage.…

On another note popular music deals with music that is popular to today 's society. For this concert, I chose a concert performed by Evanescence which was posted on YouTube. April 18th 2009 turned out to be a hectic day. Driving to Washington DC is rarely an easygoing occasion, however it only gets worse when you are attempting to see a recital and you are already late. After finally finding the National Gallery of Art we found a parking spot, entered the gallery, and found where the performances were being held. I had expected a sort of theater for which the concerts would be held, but in fact it was right in the middle of one of the garden atriums. The atmosphere was appropriate for the artwork around us, there were seats set up for the large groups of people who seemed to be there solely for the recitals, and other groups of people came and went as they pleased. Both recitals had a very relaxed, open, and comfortable feel. If one were to walk off and browse the artwork, the music would accompany the experience well. Many people were simply passing through, and there was a welcome feeling coming from the performers.…

Upon entering the Valley Performing Art Center, I was greeted by an usher that was handing out programs. The auditorium had large curved pieces of wood on the roof for better acoustics. On the stage was a large backdrop with numerous amounts of different colored lights shining on it. The stage was oriented in such a way where each musician could be seen. The band consisted of a piano, vibraphone, guitar, bass, drums, and an ensemble of saxophones, trumpets, trombones, flutes, and clarinets. The audience sat in seats in front of the band on the first floor and I was seated near the front. The show started with the John Daversa giving an introduction of the show and the special guests. Throughout the concert, special musicians got to come to the front and play solos into a microphone.…
