Key Concepts
Product Life-Cycle:
This is the complete life cycle of a product/design. The life cycle determines how long the product should last taking its material, structure and manufacturing into place. Such as the dresses made by Gary Harvey from recycled items that increase their product life-cycle.
Eco-Design:
This takes into account the way that a product is made and how it impacts the environment, and how it is environmentally friendly. This is divided into 4 factors of procurement, manufacture, use and disposal. Heath Nash can be Eco-design as his pieces are made of recycled bottles. He has 14 years of experience in his field and is recognised for his work with projects such as the Working for Water Program, the World Wildlife Fund and managing the design and construction of the Hoerikwaggo Trails. In 2004 Lamb was invited to design and construct the entrance pavilion to the 9th annual Shanghai Biennale. He has collaborated with the Litre of Light Foundation and Andrew Lord. Lamb’s COP 17 Pavilion won its third award, while resided in China - this time a silver Lourie. His most current focus in on the concept and development of the green shack, the Clifton to Sea Point Walkway and rooftop food gardens on the vacant rooftops in Cape Town. His collaborations with Andrew Lord have been featured in VISI magazine and Lamb has received several awards for his individual works. Aequorea is an example of design fiction as it is currently in porotype stages. However, is planned to be an underwater farm in international ocean waters. It is planned to be made of recycled ocean waste therefore helping the environment while solving the current struggle for land and food, while encorpirating the use of algae into the building of the structure allwing the structure to photosynthesise creating energy for the design while creating negative carbon admissions.
Dragonfly, the design of biomimicry, takes after the inspiration of a dragonfly’s wing. It is the idea of urban agriculture to incorporate large vertical gardens/farms in everyday urban lifestyles.
