Ecosystem-Save It
WATER & BIODIVERSITY
Pakistan is facing many problems now a days but is also spreading awareness and prevention by celebrating different days. One of the upcoming event is : ‘‘INTERNATIONAL DAY ON BIOLOGICAL DIVERSITY’’
I would take start with WATER.If there were no water on water on Earth, there would be no plants,no animals,no human beings etc.All living things from the tiniest insects to the tallest trees need water to survive.Allah has granted us a number of facilities like food to eat, home to take shelter, parents to give love and affection as well as air to breath.Next to the air we breath, water is the most important need for any being’s survival.Humans can survive weeks without food but only a few days without water.Water makes up about 70% of our bodies.Water is in our blood, body cells, helps us digest food, takes in oxygen and plays different of important role in our life that we cannot even imagine. The next thing I am going to discuss is BIODIVERSITY.The term biodiversity means the variety of oraganisms found on earth. This includes ecosysytems, genetic and cultural diversity etc.The diversity of species on earth is incredible.Biodiversity lies on the cornerstone of human development. As far as I know Earth, our planet is the only planet to have biodiversity, rivers, oceans and lots of water. For this we should be really very thankful to that God who has gifted us these things or I must say ‘’NAIMATAY’’.Biodiversity and Water are the two most important things that the planet earth needs to survive.Howerver on otherside research shows that scientists have significantly overestimated the damage that logging in tropical forests has done to biodiversity, a finding that could change the way conservationists think about how best to preserve species disturbed by humans. This indicates that we humans are the ones who doesn’t have time to think what we are destroying and creating facilities for ourselves, not even thinking what we are doing. For example; There is

The phrase “sex, drugs, and rock and roll” held true to its well-earned spot in 1970’s and 1980’s society. With a new, looser culture, explicit music, raunchy and rambunctious movies as well as a societal focus on many things immoral, it was an era of challenging social norms. As the use of recreational and psychoactive drugs, as well as alcohol, increased, a new problem arose; how does law enforcement and the government undo the damage being made by this new society? Laws were passed, bureaus and commissions were formed, and the President of the United States began what he called “The War on Drugs”. Over the years, some of these solutions have proven to make some impact. The initiation, tactics, and attempts at dealing a major blow to drug abuse have all affected the way America sees drugs today. A new type of warfare had made its way into the country, and after all these years, it has made its fair share of positive and negative effects.…

    1. The management strategy changed from setting an annual total allowable catch (TAC) and allowing the fishing fleet to fish until the TAC was reached. In 1990 the fishing season was only 6 days, most of the fish caught had to be frozen, gear was lost or damaged, and crews were endangered when the weather was bad. Now the individual quota system is used, so owners of fishing vessels can decide when to fish within a season that last(s) as long as 8 months. The fishers got an increase in income and could fish in better weather, and losing less fishing gear.…

Every living thing on Earth belongs to an ecosystem. An ecosystem can be as small as a puddle or as large as an ocean. No matter its size, every ecosystem is vital to life on Earth, and requires human respect, support, management and protection. The term "ecosystem" refers to a community of plants and animals that share a common space and common resources, and are all dependent on one another for survival. Ecosystems are characterised by the complex interactions between these abiotic and biotic environments which involves a number of major systems such as the biosphere, the lithosphere, the hydrosphere and the atmosphere.…

An ecosystem is defined as a group of organisms and their biophysical environment interact and exchange matter and energy, collectively, they form an ecological system. By identifying the characteristic patters of interaction it is possible to distinguish different types of ecosystem. Many forms and features have been accountable for the destruction of different ecosystems. This has been achieved within the atmosphere-varies in temperature, amount of rainfall; the hydrosphere-closely linked with atmosphere, the atmosphere determines the nature of the water cycle in a particular area; the lithosphere-determines the nature of soils and provides habitats for many of the decomposer organisms; and the biosphere-where all living life exists, can be affected by carbon emissions and other chemical factors. With these factors contributing to ecosystem variations, practical management strategies must be utilised.…

    Biodiversity Crisis

As shown by the title, our earth’s biodiversity is at crisis. But some may wonder, what is biodiversity? Wikipedia tells us that biodiversity is the variation of life forms within a given ecosystem, biome, or on the entire Earth. Interesting enough, my science teacher was starting on the Biodiversity chapter when I spotted this poster. We learnt about the classification of species using their common characteristics, but I realize that there are always exceptions. For instance, we know that mammals give birth, however there are those which lay eggs. Also, some of them have wings or fins instead of limbs. This, I feel, is the wonder of biodiversity.…

Recent growth in scientific knowledge has helped humanity comprehend the complex relationships in ecosystems and the devastating effects of human interference. As a result we have become increasingly aware of the need to protect and manage the ecosystems that we do have remaining for their utility, genetic, intrinsic and heritage values and also for the need to allow natural change and thus evolution to take place. Natural ecosystems have provided much that has been of benefit to humanity and with careful protection it can last for many more generations. Management strategies involving sustainable development, total preservation and the educating of the populace are becoming progressively more important in today's society and for the protection of ecosystems. Ecosystems such as the Amazon basin with its rich biodiversity including swamps, mangroves, forests and savannah and coral reefs with their large biodiversity of fish species are under threat from development and are shrinking rapidly. Preservation of ecosystems is important as an insurance to keep the Earth suitable for human occupancy and is more valuable as a long term investment.…

Although technological advances over recent centuries have surpassed unfathomable expectations, those services most essential to the survival of mankind are provided for, freely, by natural occurring events taking place regularly in our ecosystems. The purification of air and water, protection against droughts and floods, reduction of greenhouse gases, decomposition of organic matter, preservation and recycling of soils and the nutrients therein are just a few examples of the many (Daily, 2). These ecosystem services are defined as any function of natural origin providing some benefit to human society (Cairns, 534). Unfortunately, many of these technological advancements come with some expense, namely, habitat destruction, introduction of invasive exotic species, and the alteration of gaseous atmospheric composition. Furthermore, these services are so fundamental to life that they are often overlooked and underappreciated (Daily, 3). Although it is difficult to determine exactly which service results in what benefit, its absence tends to indicate its extinction from human society altogether. Because individuals are unaware of the importance these ecosystem services, their preservation is seemingly, an impossible feat.…

In the recent few decades, there has been a global realisation of the acceleration of the environments deterioration and the understanding that we, as humans, need to preserve our planet for future generations. In Islam, adherents submit themselves to Allah and a personal acceptance of ad-Din, otherwise known as the ‘life transaction’. Allah created humans as part of His original creation; this insinuates that humans are equal partners with nature. This is the belief of The Oneness of Creation; this belief is demonstrated through the teaching ‘Tawheed’. Tawheed is the fundamental statement of the oneness of the creator, from which all else follows. Allah says in the Qur’an (30:25) To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the Earth…and it is He who originates creation”. This quote shows how Muslims believe that the whole of creation, the work of one ‘Originator’, works within a pattern. All of these parts, which include humankind, plays their own diverse roles, and in doing so assists all other parts. The Qur’an guides adherents on the path to moderation, balance and preservation instead of being selfish. It is the path between the extremes, and that all actions should be guided with the spirit of moderation, from consumption and production, to the use of natural resources. On the moderation of all things, Allah says “And We have willed you to be a community of the middle path” (Qur’an 2:143). The principles of moderation, balance and conservation are the core sustainable living as it provides the outlines for discernment, without which there are no limits to wasteful indulgence, affluence and greed.…
