In “Annabel Lee”, his use of isolation is being used “so that her highborn kinsmen came, and bore her away from me, to shut her up in a sepulchre”, the husband in the poem is being isolated from his wife. Is comparing to when Mr. Poe lost his wife he felt isolated, alone and depressed. While in “The Fall of the House of Usher”, states “she remained trembling and reeling to and fro upon the threshold, then with a low moaning cry, fell heavily inward upon..her brother, and in her violent and now final death agonies, bore his to the floor a corpses”, it shows the similarities and symbolism that in both of the stories lose one of their loved ones which so happen to be women. Also comparing to when Mr. Poe lost his mother, wife, and foster mother all to tuberculosis. In contrast, the story “Masque of the Red Death”, it implies “Red Death had long devastated the country. No pestilence had ever been so fatal, or so hideous. Blood was its Avatar and its seal—the redness and the horror of blood”. The Red Death is supposed to symbolize the tuberculosis and how the effects are on people.
