man, and he always had a plan in case something goes wrong or if something wasn't supposed to happen. Every night he would open the lantern just a little bit so the light could land on the vulture eye. He did this for seven nights in total. On the eighth night he was even more diligent than before. He was determined to get the job done. He used so much more precaution and courage than ever. His idea went as planned on the eighth night and the old man ended up waking up. At this point, his persistence was at its peak. He stood there for a whole hour while the old man was trying to figure out who was there. After some time, the narrator decided to shine the lantern on the eye to convince himself to finish what he started. After the narrator killed the old man, the police came to investigate the strange shriek. The narrator made excellent excuses for the shout so late at night and why the man was nowhere to be found when they arrived. He said the shout was from a dream he and and the old man was away. After awhile of talking to the police, the guilt from the crime was setting into the young man. The narrator heard a ringing noise. It eventually drove him insane. He thought the police heard it too, but it was all in his head. He finally gave in and confessed the crime he committed. From the evidence of the story, I conclude that the man is in fact sane. He did many things in the process of killing the man that crazy people would not have thought of or done. He used precaution, courage, and his brain to make that his plan was flawless.
