Our ideas of education take too narrow and too low a range. There is a need of a broader scope, a higher aim. True education means more than the pursual of a certain course of study. It means more than a preparation for the life that now is. It has to do with the whole being and with the whole period of existence possible to man. It is the harmonious development of the physical, the mental, and the spiritual powers. It prepares the student for the joy of service in this world and for the higher joy of wider service in the world to come. “Since God is the source of all true knowledge, it is, as we have seen, the first object of education to direct our minds to His own revelation of Himself”. “Such an education provides more than mental discipline; it provides more than physical training. It straightens the character, so that truth and uprightness are not sacrificed to selfish desire or worldly ambition.” The true teacher is not satisfied with second rate work. He cannot be content with imparting to them only technical knowledge, with making them merely clever accountants, skillful artisans, successful tradesmen. It his ambition to inspire them with principle of truth, obedience, honor, integrity and purity that will make them a positive force for the stability and uplifting of society.
EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Education in the Philippines has undergone several stages of development from the pre-Spanish times to the present. In meeting the needs of the society, education serves as focus of emphasis/priorities of the leadership at certain periods/epochs in our national struggle as race. As early as in pre-Magellanic times, education was informal, unstructured, and devoid of methods. Children were provided more vocational training and less academics (3R’s) by their parents and in the houses of tribal tutors. The pre-Spanish system of education underwent major changes during the Spanish colonization. The tribal tutors were replaced by the Spanish Missionaries. Education was religion-oriented. It was for the elite, especially in the early years of Spanish colonization. In that period primary instruction was free and the teaching of Spanish was compulsory. Education during that period was inadequate, suppressed, and controlled. The defeat of Spain by American forces paved the way for Aguinaldo’s Republic under a Revolutionary Government. A system of free and compulsory elementary education was established by the Malolos Constitution. Under the Japanese regime, the teaching of Tagalog, Philippine History, and character. Education was reserved for Filipinos. Love for work and dignity of labor was emphasized. Under the Philippine period major changes went through from Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS) in 1987 it became Department of Education (DepEd) in 2001 and redefining the role of field offices (regional offices, division offices, district offices and schools). At present our Philippine President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III add two years to our basic education. His education team has designed a way to go from our current 10 years ( 6 elementary, 4 high school) to a K-12 system in five years starting S.Y. 2011-2012. Kindergarten (K) to Grade 12 is what the rest of the world gives their children. Tehe purpose of K-12 program is to expand the basic education cycle in this country from a short 10-year cycle to a globally-comparable 12 years. The present educational system of the Philippines is the result of a long process of educational evolution.
EXPERIENCED ENCOUNTERED:
I had so many experienced encountered in Matnog research work about my topic. I read a lot of books to gather information and ideas about educational development, spending time in the library is not so easy because there is a lot of books around you and sometimes it makes you confused about what you are looking for, all you need to do is focus and be careful to choose about the topic that you are looking for. I went also in internet café to research and add ideas or maybe to compare that what I researched or gather from the library is suited to my topic. During my research I also ask my sister to help me in using computers, to make it faster so that I can study soon about my topic.
REACTION:
All the experiences I encountered really helped me a lot to finish my research about my topic which is “Educational Development”. Reading lots of books helped me also to widen my knowledge about education. Really education is not easy but in my experiences encountered, it is also exciting because everyday you learn a lot of things around you. Education doesn’t stop even you are a graduate in a Degree. Education is everywhere, it is non-stop; it’s up to the people how to deal with it. In a long run and as experienced education provides more than discipline. It strengthens the character, so that the truth and uprightness are not sacrificed to selfish desire or worldly ambition.
RECOMMENDATION:
There are two types of informal and formal education; informal education is the education you acquired or learned about outside the school building. It is the education learned from the community or from your peer. While formal education is the learning acquired from inside the school which has a four wall wherein everyone enters the formal school gets diploma or degree to compete the world. No matter what type of education you have formal or informal, in order to compete the world, everyone must be careful what to choose the kind of education to be adapted in his life. People must know how to choose the right way to educate his life to become a better person. Having a right education has really a big help for us.

The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet – Aristotle. Education is the wise, hopeful and respectful development of learning undertaken in the belief that everyone should have the chance to share in life. the crisis of the Philippine education system, in all levels, is stemmed not on the superficial, in this case the number of schooling years, but rather on the conditions and foundation on which it subsists. Unless the government addresses in earnest poor public spending, high costs of schooling, the predominance of a colonial curriculum, lack of transparency and accountability amid widespread corruption within the sector and the development of the country’s science and technology for domestic development, all efforts will remain on the surface and neither 10 nor 12 years would make much of difference.”…

The term education is derived from the Latin word “educare” which means to lead forth, to illuminate. Hence education should provide all round development (M K Gandhi). S/he should descent down to the level of the learners to raise them to higher standards.
