Educational Adversity
There are many issues plaguing the educational system that need to be assessed immoderately. The American government needs to increase the number of students pursuing a higher education without diminishing the quality of learning. Through subsidies and government assistance the general public may have greater chances of earning a degree. Equally important work experience and military service time should count towards a college degree to allow the working class equal opportunity. Thirdly through lobbying and promoting public interests we may approach the issues congesting the school system and give birth to a brighter tomorrow. Today the low class young adults are facing adversity of the most nefarious kind. Due to necessity of a financial nature they are forced to work their life away without pursuing the luxury of an education. Plus the fact that tuition has increased more than forty-two percent from 2001-2011 makes it nearly impossible for the lower class to afford a much needed education to thrive in this country. But also thirteen percent of people with student loans owe …show more content…
more than fifty thousand dollars, all which could have been avoided if the government had more funds to offer aid. For this reason 138 billion dollars were currently allocated for educational purposes. Unfortunately most of the money was part of budget rather than student loan forgiveness and grants. Furthermore this will assist the educational system by helping the lower class students to excel in this country. At the same time those who served in the military are not given any college credit for their service.
Even though it is required to learn much of the American history, foreign policy, computer technology, and physical education just to become a proverbial soldier. In addition all are subjects that are mandatory to attain a college degree. I suggest that while attempting to asses the flawed school system they help all those who are deserving of college credits receive them. For example as suggested on the article "College 's Identity Crisis", by Frank Bruni " by giving credit for experiences far away from campus, so that students have a less lengthy, route to a diploma.(pg.1) Thus more successful graduates will mean more quality workers adding revenue to the needy education
budget. Through lobbying and promoting public interest to congress we can begin to make much needed changes to the current educational system. As said in the article "its soul searching about what it should accomplish, whom it should serve and how it must or mustn’t be tweaked. Our global competitiveness is likely to depend on how we answer these questions."(pg.1) Only by attacking the problem at the source , which is the government, can we hope to truly make a difference. Then too will our generation be able to be at the top of the global education system. There is no question that America needs to make a higher education more accessible to the masses. But first it must strengthen the foundation of it educations resources if it hopes to ever get out of it 's identity crisis. Which will be possible only if the government spends a little more money on educational costs. Unfortunately both political parties will need to coincide and settle on an agreement for that to happen.
