Educational Psychology and Mental Alertness
Playing DOTA do give disadvantages at teenagers.
Posted on February 17, 2012
DOTA (Defense Of The Ancients)…..A very popular computer game for a teenager nowadays and truly gives some benefits like fast typing, mental alertness, improving strategies and team participation. But some teenagers were mostly acquiring this game`s disadvantages that keeps this teenagers away from education. So for me, I would rather take education than this bad influence.

First,in terms of money, some teenager students spend more money from their allowance in playing DOTA instead of paying tuition and for buying such projects. Furthermore, many of them use it for placing bets on a team whether they will win or not, in other words “Gambling” and their other way of playing which money were involved.

Next, as I observed in this game it could also give problems in our eyes because DOTA has very high qualities in color, brightness and other video parts, but even though we could adjust it doesn`t mean we can avoid such problems in terms of sight like this so-called “Far-sighted” or “Near-sighted” and results us with an eyeglass.

And the last is that DOTA could sometimes cause addictedness and may result in failing grades, like my younger brother that spend to much money playing this game instead of studying hard and keep on saving his allowance.

But as you know, my younger brother`s experiencing nowadays is what I just I had in my high school life, that`s why I almost fail some of my grades because of thinking about how to win always in that game and rather minding my failing grades. And after 2 years, I just realized that playing DOTA gives me nothing but being empty-handed at all times…..so I promise myself that I should lessen this game playing to avoid such bad influences that this disadvatages throws at

If you look at both of the games without playing them, they would actually look pretty similar. Well, both of them are Multiplayer Online Battle Arena games. In which you chose characters to fight it out as a team of 5. Both games have 2 different factions of characters to choose from. In League of Legends, you can chose champions from either Noxus or Demacia. As in Lol, in Dota 2, you can chose heroes from The Dire or The Radiant. At the start in both games, you start with x number of gold each and spawn at your spawn pool. You can use this gold to buy starting items and go to your lane. In Lol, you get 475 gold and in Dota 2 you get 400. In each lane there are enemy and ally minions. You can kill enemy minions to get more gold. The goal of both games is to reach the other side and destroy your enemy nexus. That is basically how both games go. But there are many different aspects in each game. The professionals I asked said that Lol is an easier game for newer players while Dota 2 is a harder game.…

Another negative effect of violent video games is how they decrease academic performance. Stinebrickner says, ”It is a known fact that video games hurt study time”. Although I do play aggressive video games, I unlike others, play only on the weekends. The main reason why I do not play during the week is so that I can have more time to do my homework and study with little distraction. Many of the students who focus primarily on playing video games rather than focusing on school work will likely, at some point, have grades that reflect the lack of study time. If the problem is not resolved, these students will possibly do poorly or even begin to fail their classes. A survey was taken by Stinebrickner where 210 students had to write down what they did, and when they did it every day. They wrote when they ate, had classes, studied, slept, partied, played video games, etc. He discovered that the ones that played video games on their list, had less study time than others.…
