Edward Scissorhands

30Th July 2012 ‘‘Peg Should Have Taken Edward Home To Live In The Town’’

Peg Boggs should definitely have taken Edward down from the mansion to live with her and her family in the local town. Edward got to experience how people lived down in suburbia and he got to meet various new people. He also had some great relationships with people and he was particularly close to Kim, the girl he truly loved.

Peg’s decision to take Edward down to live with her family, resulted in him learning how people lived and also what happened in the outside world. Peg knew that Edward was lonely and that he was very different to your average person. She also knew that Edward was an innocent soul and she could sense that Edward had nothing, but kind-hearted intentions. Even when Peg was driving Edward through the town for the first time, you could tell that he was very excited. Obviously Edward was never exposed to the socialization that many people are used of, so when he was living in the neighbourhood he learnt to adapt. When Edward was introduced to the community, he was an instant hit! Although Edward had no hands, his scissor hands certainly came in handy. Everyone loved the way he would trim the hedges into some of the most spectacular shapes and the women would get there hair cut by him, this made Edward feel pretty special, something that may never of happened up in the old mansion.

Most Importantly Edward felt love during his time living with the Boggs’s.
From the moment that Edward saw Kim for the first time (In the photo), he knew that she was beautiful, he certainly did have feelings. Although at first Kim was quite scared and creeped out by Edward, she eventually realised that Edward was genuinely a kind & loving guy, completely opposite to her boyfriend Jim. Kim would often stick up for Edward and she did not like it when he was being set-up or when he would get into trouble for reasons that weren’t his fault. Towards the end, Kim confesses her love for Edward and gives him a kiss. If he had never come down to live with Peg & her family he would have continued to be a lost soul and would of never been exposed to reality.

In conclusion Peg was very kind and in some ways courageous for bringing Edward down to live with her family. He was exposed to the outside world and he learnt to adapt to how different people were and how people lived. Edward got to show his talents to the community, by cutting all the bushes along the street and trimming them into some awesome shapes. Edward also got to experience true love with Kim. Although towards the end he started to get a bit of a bad reputation (for things that weren’t his fault) in the community, Edward certainly got a lot out of staying with Peg Bogg’s and her family.

As a result of this Timothy and Phillip meet because they happen to get on the same raft that leads them to the small Cay. Some of the adversities that are overcome are dealing with Phillip going blind, being shipwrecked and prejudice. Getting along, working as a team and most importantly a friendship help overcome these adversities.…

At first glance, it would appear that Henry James' "The Turn of the Screw" and Tim Burton's "Edward Scissorhands" have only one thing in common: they are both from the gothic genre. But upon looking closer, one will notice that there are a number of other similar traits between the two. There are noticeable similarities between Edward and the Governess, as well as similarities between Edward and the two children in The Turn of the Screw, Miles and Flora. There are also general themes which the two share - images of a "perfect" society, as well as onlookers who have no control over the situation.…

Symbolism is used to provide a deeper meaning to things; it leaves the audience thinking about a more profound message than what is seen on screen, or written on paper. Anything from objects to weather to characters can be used to represent something else, something that the author thinks is important to share. Imperfection is a common theme in Edward Scissorhands and The Night Wanderer, both works similarly try to convey the message that everyone has their own flaws. Tim Burton’s Edward Scissorhands and Drew Hayden-Taylor’s The Night Wanderer both use symbolism to display flaws in characters, and the audience grasps onto the idea that perfection isn’t everything.…

Firstly, it was her actions that caused the major events in the book to occur. When Judy decided, two years earlier, to go to London with Mr. Shears, it sets off a chain of events that shaped the story’s plot. This is because, after she left, Ed developed feeling for Mrs. Shears. However, she did not return his feelings which caused him to become angry with her and kill her dog. Christopher ended up finding the body and decided to solve the murder. These events ultimately led him to discover the truth about his mothers’ affair, argue with his dad and run away to live with Judy. Secondly, Judy has a great deal of influence on Ed’s emotions and behaviour. After she left him, it became much harder for Ed to control his emotions, especially his anger. When Ed discovered that Christopher had spoken to Mrs. Alexander, he was very upset and lashed out at him. Christopher wrote “father interrupted me and grabbed hold of my arm really hard. Father had never grabbed hold of me like that before. So, I was very surprised when he grabbed me.” (Haddon, p. 82) This…

In page 134 paragraph 1, it says, "I got out of my own things and slipped it on… have a strapless bra… pinning up my hair..." This not only explains Edie's eager at this age, where she is blossoming out of her childhood and turning into a woman but also, we see Edie's childlike and innocent trait because she was scared that Chris (the pilot) will tell Mrs. Peebles what happened. Also, if we see page 144, "Kissing," I howled." This quote furthermore shows Edie's innocence because she doesn't know what intimate means. Lastly, we see that Edie is naive because she waited the summer and well into the fall, six days a week, Edie waits at the mailbox for the letter Chris has promised to write. "It never crossed my mind for a long time a letter might not come." (Pg. 145) Then as she grew old, she knew no letter was ever going to come. In conclusion, the narrator is not reliable in my opinion because not only is this story told from first person but also, out of her loss of innocence we cannot say we "know" her and that she hasn't changed after this…

The story of Edward Scissorhands was intended to be much more than your average meaningless film. It is a story that intends to display the problems of today’s society from an outsider’s point of view. Furthermore, the film portrays how society judges others based on appearance and puts the reality second. Tim Burton, the director of the film, develops upon this point, as it is a crucial theme in the film, and exposes the viewer to the true consequences of the bias judgment that occurs in our society. Edward Scissorhands also presents the conformity and social normality that society has been adopted.…

For his part, George is as taciturn and strange as ever. Forster lets us into his characters' heads, but with George and Mr. Emerson we have only their outward actions and dialogue. Lucy's experience is confusing not only because she watches a man die, but also because she is not sure how to deal with George and how he makes her feel. She recognizes that he is not chivalrous or proper, but she sees goodness in him. She stops by the river and feels somehow comfortable with him, but she nervously asks him not to tell anyone that she fainted and he carried…
