My Internship Was Great

At the summer of 2013, I participated in internship at Beijing Hotel. It was my first time to go to work, so I was interesting and exciting. The Beijing Hotel is a 5-star hotel from 100 years ago; it was build by French in 1900. Beijing Hotel is in the center of Beijing, near the Forbidden City and Tian An Men Squire. I applied a job that is the assistant of Marketing Department. The works would make me improve my personal abilities and perfect work experience, but sometimes there are some negatives such as the can not stays up late and do not have fixed holiday. Firstly, there are some negatives in the job. For example sometime I have to stays up late because of the VIP guests who come from the government or the members. I need to welcome and lead to the designated place, but they sometimes come to have a meeting or check in very late so I have to wait for them. Then ever one knows the hotel industry is work 24hours, 7days and 12months at whole year. So it means we do not have fixed holidays if we do the hospitality industry.

Secondly, I had a very good work experience in my internship. Such as when I communicated with guests, I had to write down their requirements and special terms. Sometime, I also wrote the contract and refined them repeatedly. I had to be very carefully to ensure the contract.

According to the law case EEOC v. FREEMAN, the EEOC filed a law suit against Freeman and alleged the company’s hiring policy which includes criminal background and credit history checks, has a disparate impact on African-American, Hispanic, and male applicants. And the material fact of this case is whether Defendant’s hiring criteria of conducting criminal background and credit history checks is consistent with business necessity. Since the Defendant was charged by the EEOC with unlawful discrimination in this case, the source of law is the Title VII of Civil Rights Act of 1964. “Title VII prohibits discrimination in hiring, firing, trainings, promotion, discipline, or other workplace decisions on the basis of an employee or applicant’s race, color, gender, national origin, or religion” (Bennett- Alexander & Hartman, 2011).…

But, in high school you are pushed in the right direction, given second chances (many many second chances). It is free and you do not lose money if you fail a class. You can always start over next year. High school, as far as your future goes, is meaningless, to a certain point. For college, none of the above is true. I'm adding this in here because I forgot to mention it: college is REALLY expensive and if you fail your class or even get a D, which does not count in college, you just lost all your money. No refunds, nothing. So if you go to a university or state school, you might be out 600-1000 dollars. Your professors honestly couldn’t care less if you do well. There are a few professors who will give you ONE second chance, depending on the circumstances. But if you fail a test, miss homework, don’t come to class, they don’t care. You will not get a call home, and you will not be able to get the assignment unless they have a website or you know someone in that class. Also, and this is the most important aspect of college to be successful, you CAN NOT fall behind. In college, if you fall behind in reading or whatever, it almost always will affect your grade because of the amount of studying and homework. Some of the big changes and differences are teachers/professor’s, grade, attendants, responsibility, classes, textbooks, locations, and studying. Let’s go!…
