EFFECTIVE LEARNING SKILLS AND STRATEGIES TO ACADEMIC SUCCESS

According to Harry Emerson Fosdick, “No steam or gas ever drives anything until it is confined. No Niagara is ever turned into light and power until it is tunneled. No life ever grows until it is focused, dedicated, disciplined.”
God has blessed each and every one of us with intellect, emotion, ability and individuality. He had given us the dominion to govern ourselves. Every person, every student is a powerhouse of great potential and a storehouse of abounding raw resources. But these gifts are useless unless directed, enhanced and developed through self-discipline.
What Does Discipline Require?
1. GOAL SETTING
In setting your goals, you must define your short term, medium and long range targets. Realistic and attainable goals give direction and motivation. Without them, much in life is wasted. You will find yourself in doing a little of this and a little of that and hardly accomplishing anything. No engineer, doctor and other professional has mastered his art or craft by accident. They all strived for excellence. So, to be successful in your chosen career, you must first do everything you could while you’re still young

1 Are educational and career goals different or the same? How? Is it essential to set educational and career goals? Why or why not? Educational and career goals are different because educational goals are geared more towards expanding knowledge, while career goals focus more on a particular job field and work experience. They are the same because they both work together to increase productivity and success rate. It is essential to set educational and career goals because it can help an individual to support themselves and establish an identity in the world. The best time to plan your career goals is while young. Those who set off into adult life without clear goals often go adrift and end up making decisions such as having children, getting married, or taking jobs that limit their opportunity. In such cases, time starts working against you making setting and achieving long term goals more difficult but not impossible another reason youth seem to benefit from pursuing educational goals is time. With many careers requiring postgraduate degrees just to get started, people in their 50's and beyond are challenged with the ability to complete their educational goals with enough productive…

I had no idea how much I needed to think about how I would help myself continuing my academic success until this general education class I had to take opened my mind to new ideas. Setting educational goals is an important part of your academic success, this will help us stay on track on what our educational goal is. A goal will not let me sidetrack if I keep repeating to myself what my goal is. Educational goals will also assist me in planning a good strategy to make my goals move forward and become a reality not just thoughts. The tutor is to reflect on each session, for example look at what went well and what didn’t go so well. Differentiating between different students abilities and learning styles.
