According to Jeffrey Deyto of CP 4-1, it is advisable to study with somebody and there must be a presence of proper motivation from peers and facilitators or professors either way of behaviors including habits are most of the time affected by its environment since professors are part of the environment which students must abide. VII. Conclusions
Good grades can be attained if the following study habits are followed: A. Time management and prioritization
Whenever a first year PUP psychology working students have problem with his schedule on work and studies, he must see to it what he will prioritize studying his lesson. B. Self-discipline and self-control
A first year PUP psychology student should set first himself on doing and studying his lessons before doing extra activities. C. Setting of limitation
A first year PUP psychology students can’t avoid media since it is a part of his everyday life but he must set limitations on listening or watching to media-related works. D. Good peers and trust on oneself
Choose good peer that could influence you to have a good study habit which will lead you to the right path. You must also learn to trust yourself through thinking positively and putting in mind that everything will be easy if you will take it easy.
I. EFFECTIVE STUDY HABITS FOR FIRST YEAR PUP PSYCHOLOGY STUDENTS
Since we are now enrolled in college, odds are that we were a pretty student in high school. But no matter successful a student we were, experience has shown that the learning skills we employed in high school will likely to be insufficient to guarantee success in our college courses. Effective study skills must be practiced in order for us to improve. It is not enough to simply “think about” studying; we have to actually do it, and in the process use information from what we do to get better. This is the central idea of our research.
No two people stud the same way, and there is little doubt that what we works for one person may not work for another. However, there are some general techniques that seem to produce good results. No one would argue that every subject that we have to take is going to be so interesting that studying it is not work but pleasure we can only wish.
Everyone is different, and for some students, studying and being motivated to learn comes naturally. It’s likely that we are not one of them, but don’t despair, there is hope! Success in college is dependent on the ability of an individual to study effectively and efficiently. The results of poor study skills are wasted time, frustration, and low or failing grades. All we can say is that time is precious and not to be squandered, no matter what you believe right now.
Our research is designed to help develop effective study skills. It is not a magic formula for success in preparing for tests, or written or oral assignments. Studying any material requires work! However, by using the techniques described in this paper, and by applying I to yourself, you can gain a valuable edge in understanding material, preparing for tests, and, ultimately learning. This paper contains some of the best and most effective techniques of successful students - students who typically high grades in high school and college regardless of the courses they take.

Social networking site * Abbreviated as SNS a social networking site is the phrase used to describe any web site that enables users to create public profiles within that web site and form relationships with other users of the same website who access their profile.
III. Causes of bad study habits A. Family problem – one cause of students’ poor study habit is the environment, specially his home. Family problem is a common cause of poor study habits or students. A family problem, whether big or small will truly affect a student’s world. It will be hard for a student who is facing outside stress to find time and place to study his lessons and do his home works in their home.
B. Absence of time management – the root of all bad habit of students is lack of self-discipline. A student without self discipline won’t have any organized time. Students without time table will not finish any school works and will lead to students’ procrastination. Because of this, time will be wasted without any work-done.
C. Peer pressure – one factor that blocks the students from studying well is the influence of friends. Every student has a circle of friends, friends that may be good or bad influence. Friends influencing bad doings like going to the mall, drinking alcohol, smoking and spending time on online games will bring no good to students.
D. Influence of media – media is one of the destruction that every student faces. Media such as television, radio and magazines play big role on students. There are students who are listening to their Mp3 player or i-pod while studying and watching television while doing their homework. Doing two things at the same time won’t bring any good result because, noise and music can interfere with the brains ability to comprehend new information.
E. Influence of modern technology – the usage of technology may consider being helpful to students but at the same time brings negative effect on students. Technology brings destruction to students. Destructions such as modern gadgets like cellphones, music players, ipads, laptops and many more that stops the students from having good study habits.
F. Poor attendance – is a very important factor in having good grades. Attending the class everyday is the start of making good study habit. If you want to succeed in college you need to be in class all or most of the time (Gladen, 2008). Some students don’t attend in class regularly and attends only if there are exams or quizzes because they find it wasteful to attend the class most of the time.
G. Poverty – poverty stops the students from having high grades. Every student is required to buy some materials that are needed, materials such as books which is very important for students and other tools need for their course. Students without enough financial support from parents won’t be able to provide his needs in school and would have difficult time to get high grades.
H. Laziness – being lazy is very common among students. Students nowadays, want to spend their free time on things that are enjoying, unlike on studying. They become lazy when it comes to school works. A student with this kind of attitude needs to change.
I. Attitude of professor – a student’s motivation to study and way of studying can be affected by their professor’s attitude and way of teaching. Professors with bad attitude towards the students may give bad effects to them. They may lost their interest to study.
J. Lack of self motivation – students are being affected of having poor scores from quizzes or exams. They may lose their interest to study harder and never try to do better. Students lose their hope, and have no confidence to do better. Students with negative thoughts on their mind like thinking they can’t do it, can’t really do it. Motivation is a need for every student. This will able them to do better and continue to study even there are hindrances.
IV. Effects of bad study habits
a. Failing grades – likely laziness, peer pressure, poor attendance and influence of modern technology are the main causes that affect the grade of a student.
b. Lack of confidence – once a student gets a low grade on a subject and feels like his doing his best but there’s no improvement, he will have less confidence that he will pass that subject. And the student will not motivate himself to pursue his study to that subject.
c. Deviancy – if a student did not do his assignment and has been called by the teacher to tell what his assignment is and when he tell that he have not done his assignment, he may be humiliated in the class and be deviant.
d. Anxiety - anxiety can create feelings of fear, worry, uneasiness and dread. One of the reasons is procrastinating. Instead of using the time to become productive, he prioritizes his own happiness.
V. Solutions to bad study habits.
a. Time management
Having so many school works, extra curricular activities and peer pressure can cause a student to cram, being stressed and at the same time, pressured, which will lead a student to have Lack of time to complete the task. Time management MIGHT help us to have accurate and sufficient time for activities
Managing your time well is an important element of success - especially if you 're a student. If you set priorities that fit your needs and lifestyle, you 'll have a better chance of achieving your goals.
1. Make a To-Do List Every Day.
Put things that are most important at the top and do them first. And don 't forget to reward yourself for your accomplishments. 2. Use Spare Minutes Wisely.
When you’re commuting on the bus or train, use the time to get some reading done. 3. It 's Okay to Say No.
Keep your short- and long-term priorities in mind. 4. Find the Right Time.
You 'll work more efficiently if you figure out when you do your best work. 5. Review Your Notes Every Day.
Reviewing helps you reinforce what you 've learned, so you need less time to study before a test. 6. Get a Good Night 's Sleep.
Your brain needs rest to perform at its peak. Lack of sleep makes the day seem longer and your tasks seem more difficult. 7. Communicate Your Schedule to Others.
Tell your friends that you are only available at certain times of day and not to expect a response at other times. 8. Become a Taskmaster.
Give yourself a time budget and plan your activities accordingly. Figure out how much free time you have each week before you add any commitments. 9. Don 't Waste Time Agonizing.
Instead of agonizing and procrastinating, just do it. Wasting an entire evening worrying about something that you 're supposed to be doing is not productive, and can increase your stress. 10. Determine Your Priorities.
You can’t do everything at once. Establish the importance of each item. Then set realistic goals that are attainable.
And always remember, you cannot bring back the time you’ve wasted. As Charles Darwin said, “A man who dares to waste one hour of his life has not discovered the value of life.”
b. Self-discipline
Temptation is one of the things affecting a student to have time disorganization. Self-discipline is vital for students. It is vital to be able to resist all temptations which surround a student. This is especially applicable to college students who are greatly influenced by peer pressure.
There are some ways that can help students to strengthen their self-discipline 1. Decide that you really want to be someone who 's self-disciplined. Your desire will motivate you to make good choices. 2. Make a personal commitment to develop and strengthen these traits. 3. Learn the rules that determine what you can and cannot do. 4. Be accountable. Accept responsibility for your own behavior. Don 't blame others for your actions and decisions. 5. Practice. Self-discipline is something you can teach yourself. 6. Do activities that enhance your self-discipline. 7. Eliminate harmful habits. 8. Start a self-discipline group to plan and carry out activities.
Self-discipline and time management is especially vital for college going students. This is because this is the beginning of their career. This is the time when they need to get serious about life and how they are going to live.
c. Prioritizing
Prioritizing skills are the ability to see what tasks are more important at each moment and give those tasks more of attention, energy, and time. "Prioritizing is the answer to time management problems. We all have many things to do, and we never have time and energy to do them all. We don 't have time and resources to do them equally well either. Many things will be left undone, no matter how hard you try.
To prioritize effectively you need to be able to recognize what is important, as well as to see the difference between urgent and important.
With good prioritizing skills, you finish as soon as possible all the important urgent tasks, the ones that would get you into a crisis or trouble otherwise. Then, you focus your attention and try to give more and more time to those most important, but not urgent tasks, the ones that are most rewarding in the long run.
VI. Testimonies of a graduating psychology student
A graduating student (Jeffrey Deyto) states that environment is important to every student. It is not necessary to study with a group but with somebody that’s why we are in an institution called school. The environment in school is affected by professors/facilitators that’s why proper motivation should come from them for the student to have a good study habit either way in behaviors.
VII. Conclusions
Good grades are difficult to attain because of so many hindrances, but there are ways to have a good study habit that leads to good grades.
First is the time management in which whenever a student is working and have a problem in his/her schedule with his work and study, he/she must see to it that he/she will prioritize studying his/her lessons.
Second is self-discipline and self control. A student should set first himself on doing and studying his lessons before doing other activities.
Third is setting of limitation. Whenever a student can’t avoid media, since it is part of this everyday world, he must set limitation on watching and listening to media-related works.
And finally, good peers and trust on oneself. A student must choose peers that will influence him/her to have a good study habit which will lead to right path(high grades). He/she must also learn to trust himself/herself through thinking positively and putting in mind that everything will be easy if you take it easy.
