Improper solid waste management might be the most common, yet most neglected problem in one’s community. This is, without a doubt, a problem encountered in the third world countries. This is an important issue as well as a major challenge not only in cities, but even in rural areas. The top-down approach to fix such problem was long proven useless, participation of the people in one’s community is the best approach to achieve a successful waste reduction program, as well as knowing the factors for proper management of yard waste. McKenzie-Mohr (2000) mentioned in his research that participation is important to determine and discover workable waste management solutions.

Most residence are just burning the collected garbage and worse, some of them dispose their junks in the irrigations and canals. The residence are using ground water, it would be troublesome if the hazardous waste leech into the ground and fully contaminate the groundwater itself. And since most residence are burning their garbage including plastics, batteries, aerosol cans, and other things that weren’t supposed to be burned, it is really unsafe. Organic and inorganic wastes will provide economic benefits for the community if properly managed and processed. Making sure that everyone is participating is essential in developing programs regarding the management of garbage. Even Hon. Alfredo Angala, Barangay Captain, agreed that public knowledge and participation in waste management programs are needed for it to be successful and it does not just depends on the actions of the higher-ups. The advancement of effective residence-education campaign is one of the steps in reaching the cultural transformation that is necessary for waste managing reform. As of now, the most potential for reform is within the basic unit of a community itself, and the development made through public education in raising awareness can help future actions by the barangay council, for the public will be more knowledgeable and helpful on future policies and programs.
To reach the ultimate goal of the said campaign, there should be an encouragement in the residences’ participation as much as possible in solid waste management practices. One
