Teens that do not get enough sleep are much more likely to participate in violent crimes as well as property crimes than teens with good amounts of sleep. Also, when teens get insufficient sleep, they are more likely to smoke, become alcoholics, do drugs, and get into fights at school, which has caused many students to become criminals in the future. If you do not get enough sleep each night, you could suffer from drowsy driving, which is extremely dangerous, and could lead to many deaths due to car crashes. In Wyoming, when Jackson Hole High School shifted its start time almost to 9:00 a.m., the car crashes involving teenage drivers dropped by an astonishing 70%. Later school times allow you to get the sleep that you need to make good decisions, not only for you, but also for…

Curfews are a subject that is widely discussed on if they should or should not be enforced most of the people lean to enforce curfews in an effort to cut crimes that are happening late at night. Most parents would agree that teen curfew is effective in reducing the risk of teens getting into trouble. But I believe that teens shouldn’t have a curfew. I say this because not all teens are out in weird hours of the night getting into trouble so why punish all teens for others mistakes.…

School start times is a major issue for students. It’s has either been affecting them academically, or by reducing the students sleep time. Some schools have made the change of delaying start times, hoping for an improvement in students. Studies have shown that delaying start times have a beneficial effect on students. School Start Time Should be delayed early in the morning. Delaying start times could help students academically and increase sleep time. Teenagers are often given a bad reputation because they are seen as irritable, uncooperative, and irresponsible. Adults tend to complain about their children never waking up on time, but little do they know that their adolescent children have different sleeping patterns that enables them to stay up late, and arise late. High school students experience enough stress considering their homework load, and they also suffer the hardships of waking up remarkably early in the morning for school. Be that as it may, adolescents still have to discern how to wake up early to be prepared for adulthood, but at this moment, their bodies are not primed for the early mornings such as adults are. Contrary to the current law, schools should begin subsequently to the prevailing early mornings because the untimely school starts result in negative health effects, increased safety risks, and poor academic performance.…

Last weekend, the curfew kept one of my friends from driving under the influence of alcohol. It also kept one of my friends from driving after a long and tiresome day. Driving white under the influence of alcohol or fatigue will greatly impair your driving abilities, and the curfew effectively kept my friends from being unsafe on the roads after midnight. Another example that was in the news recently that supports why a curfew is necessary is the death of a boy named Wilberto in the town that neighbors mine. The officers in this town don't necessarily enforce the curfew law, and a freshman boy's life was taken because of it. He left his home illegally (he didn't have his license) to drive with his girlfriend around 1 a.m. While he was driving, he became distracted and spun off the road, killing himself and seriously injuring his girlfriend. If the curfew law had been enforced more strictly in that town, Wilberto's chances of getting killed or hurt would have been much slimmer. An argument against a curfew might be that teens have the right to be on the road at any time they would like, and that a curfew law is imposing on their freedoms as human beings and citizens…

A main reason for schools to start later is the mental health of students. As a study shows, a later start of a school day will not affect the sleeping time of students, but when they wake up (School Start Times). This means that students will get more sleep which will allow them to focus more in class, and be less tired at the end of the day. More sleep also allowed for less tardies, academic improvement, and less sleepiness (Start Times). Due to these things, students are learning more, and are setting a path to a better future that lays ahead. However, academic improvements are not the only reason schools should start later. Lack of sleep causes disorders such as depression (Education to Biology). These disorders hurt the wellbeing of students and will impair their academic learning. Furthermore, depression can give students lots of stress, and students will not be able to learn in such an environment.…

Not only are curfews not needed in the community; but, they are also “Already in the USA, more children are charged with curfew offences than with any other crime.”(parenting tips). Another point is "statistics show that most juvenile crimes occur between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m." This fact totally goes against the idea of teen curfews. “Children have a right to freedom of movement and assembly which curfews directly undermine, by…

As parents we have an obligation to set boundaries for our children. We should not rely on society to get fed up and set the boundaries for us. Growing up I had curfews for different events or outings. I also had curfews for telephone calls or visitors at the house. Being accountable for my actions helped me become the person I am today. Curfews helped me understand the need for rules and how to live in society as a responsible adult. In the nineties society had no need to place curfews on teens at the mall, in the city, or even in their car; mostly due to the face that parents took more responsibility at that time that they do today. The lack of curfews set by parents has led to the implementation of curfews by communities.…

Not enough sleep for students can cause issues with: mental health, decrease ability to learn, increase obesity rates, increase the number of car accidents, and substance abuse (“Review” 1-2). Having students get up later for school due to later start times would benefit more than having students doing drugs and risking their full potential to become a successful adult. Students need more sleep since they are still growing and developing. Although some people disagree with later start times due to parents’ jobs and other family related issues, schools should start later in the morning because teens do not get enough rest due to homework overload, and because teens brains do not start functioning until later in the day.…
