One of the effects is that it affects people. The hurricane affects us because the disaster contaminates water makes diseases and sickness. People also drown by the floods that the hurricane causes. It causes lots of damage. For example cities are damaged and it takes a large amount of money to rebuild it as well as time. This also affects people because there homes get destroyed. This hurricane happened on August 23-31, 2005. This hurricane was seen in the Bahamas, most of eastern North America, and especially in New Orleans. Hurricane Katrina is known for the most expensive hurricane in the U.S history. It was a category five hurricane, which means it was very expensive. At first it was a tropical depression. It then moved into the Gulf of Mexico, where it then gained force and became a hurricane. This happened because the Gulf of Mexico was pretty warm which gave the tropical depression force. Hurricane Katrina caused many floods. It killed more than 1,605 people. Due to the deaths it made Louisiana and New Orleans lose population, and of course caused lots of damage to buildings.
Unfortunately, this type of natural disaster can't be prevented. For safety you should know where to go in case of one. This place should be secure and with small amount of windows. During the hurricane be sure to not use a candle or a cell phone, but make sure you keep track of what is happening on a radio.
