Pearl harbor was a massive event in history that will always be remembered, but catastrophic events like this don’t just happen. The naval base was attacked by 353 imperial Japanese fighter planes, bombers and torpedo planes in two waves in the two waves 8 navy battleships were damaged and 10 other warships were destroyed. 188 airplanes were destroyed, and 159 damaged. 2400 people were killed. In the two-hour attack there were many different ways that the Japanese attacked the US. The weapons used during the attack on Pearl Harbor included bombs, torpedoes, machine guns and anti-aircraft guns. The Japanese bombs and torpedoes were dropped by numerous aircraft, including B5N2 bombers and Aichi D3A1 dive bombers. As the Japanese ambassadors got this information, the American intelligence also learned this. Everyone understood the note's meaning: “War was to be declared that afternoon.”
President Roosevelt made a speech saying about what the future was going to hold with the the country. He said, “Yesterday, December 7th, 1941 - a date which will live in infamy - the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan” by this he meant that, that date would go down in history as being a very evil day.
On this same day president Roosevelt signed the declaration of war. The us didn’t want to go into to this war knowing that they wouldn’t have a strong army, so they tried to make their forces stronger. The US didn’t really want to go into war in the first place, but now they had to, but they deffinatly didn’t want to loose. The US government converted to a war economy. This was a process where they would supply the Soviet Union and Great Britain with weapons and supplies. All of the japenese americans that were living on the coast at this tine were all sent away to camps for the whole of the
