What were the major developments in the evolution of mass media during the 20th century?
There were many major developments in the evolution of mass media during the 20th century. In the early 1900’s the source of media was newspapers. To find out information, people would buy a newspaper from a newspaper stand. The radio was invented in the late 1800’s but didn’t become popular until around the 1930’s. During that time, people would listen to the radio to find out news of the great depression and to find out about what was happening with the war. Since then we have televisions, cell phone, tablets, laptops, ipods, mp3 players, social networking sites, etc. I think that the most popular way to get news around today is through a social media networking site or the news. Sure, the news may exaggerate just a bit, but it gives you a jest of what is going on. Social media networking sites are great places to list new information because one person will see it and they will share it with their friends, and then they share it with their friends, etc. People start talking about it and people become informed about it. The growth of mass media will continue to grow in years to come. In 100 years we have acquired many ways to communicate with people and I think there is many more to come in the next 100 years. Mass media has changed the lives of people of how we live today to how people used to live before we got all of this helpful and interesting technology.
