ABSTRACT
This study aims at comparing effects of the use of handouts with the presentation method on students’ mind maps of grade X of SMA Negeri 1 Tempel after attending teachings by implementing Mind Mapping technique on the subtopic of energy currents in ecosystem. This was Quasi-Experimental study with the research design of Static Group Design. The experimental group used handouts while the control group used the presentation method in the teaching. The research data were gained from the results of the mind map assessments including five indicators of exploring ideas, relating ideas, the whole structure, communication, and the use of design elements (creativities). The research results showed that the mind map results through the use of handouts were better than ones through the use of the presentation method. The results of the U-Mann Whitney test between the experimental group and the control group showed that zcount (1.68) < z table (1.96) meaning that there was no significant difference between the mind map resulted through the use of handouts and of the presentation method.
