Elbow focus on these ideas because of the voice expressing the essence of your feelings and thoughts. An essay with feelings instead of just text is more known to pull in those who can relate or compare to it, thus giving the essay “power” to pull in the reader.

I think it is easy to understand his example of freewriting. Elbow mentions in the first paragraph that freewriting is like “babbling or jabbering.” Paragraph 3 shows this example of this “babbling” by first talking about what is on his mind, to stating about the weather to talking about
sentences and colors.

The difficulties I have when writing an essay homework assignment usually comes with my thoughts always being jumbled, unfocused or uninterested. When I start writing, the intro and the thesis is very easy to create. However, when I expand on the thesis, I tend to get lost in the thought process on how to break it down and what actual information I should list to back up my thesis. This is when everything becomes jumbled for me and my writing mixes up a lot between different explanations without keeping them in order.
