1.1 BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY
Electronics has so much improved to the extent of applying its use to the health sector. In Africa there has been a very high infection rate of the malaria parasite due to the breeding environment conducive for its reproduction available in almost in all regions.About 3.3 billion people half of the world 's population are at risk of malaria. In 2010, there were about 219 million malaria cases (with an uncertainty range of 154 million to 289 million) and an estimated 660 000 malaria deaths (with an uncertainty range of 490 000 to 836 000). Increased prevention and control measures have led to a reduction in malaria mortality rates by more than 25% globally since 2000 and by 33% in the WHO African Region. People living in the poorest countries are the most vulnerable to malaria. In 2010, 90% of all malaria deaths occurred in the WHO African Region, mostly among children under five years of age. (http://www.who.int/features/factfiles/malaria/en/, Retrieved on: 2/17/2014). Malaria affects more than 250 million people and causes more than a million deaths each year (WHO 2005). One important control strategy against this and other mosquito-borne diseases is control, which aims to reduce human-mosquito contact. Different control measures are used routinely against mosquitoes and their larvae, including chemical (eg insecticide), biological (eglarvivorous fish or pathogenic fungi), environmental (e.g. land filling or drainage), and personal protection (e.g. Mosquito repellents formulated as pills, coils, ointments, lotions, and sprays; and insecticide-treated or untreated bed nets) (malaria review.pdf by Enayati A, Hemingway J, Garner P,2010)
Electronic mosquito repellents (EMRs) are marketed in response to a huge demand from the public for convenient, safe, and effective antimosquito products. Female Anopheles
