Abstract Since the widespread incorporation of electricity at the beginning of the 20th century, numerous advancements have been made, improving greatly upon the procedures involved in the maintenance of electrical components. From generating stations to distributors, and in both commercial and residential applications, safety involving electrical transmission and principles regarding its usage is continuously changing in regards to safety. Much research is conducted regarding these implications, ensuring their merit of incorporation.
Introduction Electricity has become a pivotal requirement that has been incorporated into nearly everyone’s daily lives, transforming throughout the years from a beneficial aspect into an almost basic necessity. Luckily, with electricity’s widespread incorporation, advancements regarding safety have developed as well. This aspect is greatly experienced in the electrical industry as the occurrence of working energized conductors has become almost a requirement. The principal hazards that are associated with electricity involve arc flash and the possibility of electrocution. It is important to realize the potential severity of both these occurrences, as the immediate possibility exists of causing fatality or severe injury. Instances will vary upon the severity of these cases, based on the system that is being operated upon. Knowledge of the system is required in the proper selection of the multiple forms of personal protective equipment available, ensuring that everyone involved is properly equipped. Tools involved in the working of energized components too have greatly evolved. Resources are available for situations presented by a number of different variables.
