Electronic Health Record Vs. Practice Management
Electronic health record (EHR) and Practice management (PM) are both software, but there is a difference between them. When we talk about EHR we are talking about clinical data which include the clinical documentation of the patient such as patient's chief complaint, results of physical examination, record o vitals sing and past medical history. PM is the administrative function, using this data is gathered on all of the patients from the time the appointment is made through the visit is paid.
Five of the main applications of an EHR are clinical documentation, results management, clinical decision support, analytics and reporting and closed-loop medication management. Some of the PM applications are scheduling appointments, register patients
into a master list, complete a billing claim for each patient visit and send the insurance claims to the insurance carriers.
A PM system is closely linked to an EHR system. All the outpatients' software vendors offer both of the systems EHR and PM because they need to be together for both of them to function properly.
