Elements Of Professionalism In A Nurse I Am

The nurses in the view “A Nurse I Am” displayed several elements of professionalism such as delivering quality patient-centered care, they are responsible and accountable, and they all word as leaders in the health care team. These elements are all important and need to be present in every nurses’ professional practice. The first element of professionalism displayed in the view is that of delivering quality patient-centered care. This element was displayed repeatedly with each and every patient interaction. I feel as though Bob Wilkinson, the pediatric oncology nurse, displayed this element most memorably. Bob went above and beyond to get to know his patients personally and did everything within his power to bring comfort to them throughout his interaction. All of these nurses knew what their role was in each situation. If a certain treatment was ordered they knew to give it in a timely manner, but I feel that Ardis Bush went above and beyond by taking responsibility to education her patient about changing her dietary habits to prevent further issues. She took responsibility for contacting the dieticians so that her patient could receive further education. This element is important in professional practice because nurses need to take responsibility for the care of their patients. In my opinion, doctors are only with their patients for a short period of time, but nurses are there for the day in and day out changes and situations, this means that they need to be responsible and accountable to report any sudden declines or changes. They need to be accountable by completing charting so that other nurses and physicians can see all of the tasks that were completed for a certain
