1. Discuss the process of reading
Before reading anything, prior knowledge and a review of the vocabulary to be encountered in the text is necessary. After reading, the reader must be able to decode or understand what he/she had read. Then they need to make connections between what they have read and their prior knowledge about it. Lastly, they may reflect on what they have read.
2. What is comprehension in relation to reading? Comprehension and reading go hand in hand. With comprehension we are able to understand, interpret, and get a better grasp of what the written material is. Comprehension gives meaning to what you have read and provides you information.
3. What are the levels of reading comprehension? Discuss each level
The first level is literal comprehension wherein you take everything that was said as is or simply taking all of it literally. The second level, interpretative comprehension, is reading between the lines. You try to understand what it was trying to imply. The third level is the applied comprehension, which is a mix of the previous levels. It is where you take what was stated, and then what was implied, and then go to extent of reading beyond the lines.

For me, it is quite difficult to comprehend reading materials. I can comprehend the literature if I enjoy the subject; otherwise I find it hard to concentrate. I would describe my relationship with reading as Donald Hall described it in “Four Ways of Reading”.…

A short story is a fictional read which can be exciting because it usually is not going to bore you to death, and will keep you on the edge of your seat. It may have been a story you have heard before, but actually reading it can give the whole meaning and better understanding of the story. A short story is more than just a story, it is where you can dive into a reading for only a short time, but feels like you are lost in the story for hour.
