Elf-child. The story ended by Hester Primm coming back to Boston without Pearl at her side. It gives information on how Hester has lived though her remaining time and who she was buried next to after she passes. The book provides little information on what Pearl has become in her days of adulthood, therefore the readers may conclude with multiple conjunctions for Pearl. Some people might conclude that Pearl is with a child. As it is stated,“Once Hester was seen embroidering a baby–garment”(Hawthorne 262). This shows the fact that Pearl may be pregnant with a child of her own, this can be supported by the letters Hester has received. The letters are the only device used to take communicate with the two, therefore the fact Hester is embroidering the baby-garments cannot be a coincidence, Therefore this theory of Pearl being pregnant with a child is approved. As the first theory states,“Pearl is pregnant with a child” this also concludes that she is married to a man. “Whether her wild, rich nature had been softened and subdued, and capable of a woman's gentle happiness”(Hawthorne 262). Hester may have left Pearl because Hester does not feel alive without her Scarlet Letter. Pearl may have tried to bring Hester a better life by sending her many furniture and luxuries, which Hester never cared to use. It may be that Hester is mentally unstable and she does not see Pearl as she was before, just like the time when Pearl does not see Hester without her letter. No matter what Pearl did Hester doesn’t realize her as her daughter. This statement can be supported by the fact that Hester was making baby-garments to remember her daughter in the old
