Elizabeth Barrett Browning's Sonnet 32

When reading Elizabeth Barrett Browning's "Sonnet 32" I noticed that this was her only sonnet of the four in Sonnets From the Portuguese that wasn't written directly for another person. It seems as if she was writing this sonnet in a diary for herself. This makes me believe that during the time of writing this sonnet the speaker, or Elizabeth Barrett Browning, had some internal conflict over the relationship she was in at the time and was confiding in her own secrecy to try to work out her controversial thoughts.

The way this sonnet was written also suggests that it could be similar to an entry of a diary due to the blatant self-hatred that the speaker uses to describe herself by. She compares herself to an "out-of-tune worn viol" and says
