Carly was my new witness. Carly was interesting to have as a witness because she had already taken the class once. But there is always more to learn. I met Carly between when she took the class and when she was TA for my class. I saw her voice as Elizabeth Proctor, which I found out was not how Carly used to sound. She used to have so much tension in her emotional center because she wanted to be accepted and affirmed by others. This strained her voice and made it difficult to show her true emotions.
She found her self worth in how others saw her and this actually cause her acting to suffer as well as her daily life. Once she let go of that need for affirmation. She then got the affirmation in getting the role of Elizabeth Proctor. The way that she was able to let go of her tension and her expectations was to lean into faith, jesus, and prayer. She has lost a lot of tension. Occasionally she would slip and get tight but it was nowhere near where she had been at the start of her class. The first time that she did her monologue she held back a bit on her emotions. The second time she had a range of emotions. Her monologue was about being short and someone looking down on her for it. She did her monologue as though she were talking to the tall woman and then also to a friend. Her tone was biting when she talked to the tall woman but she was soft when talking to her friend. There was a depth of true emotion that she had guarded on her first time through. It is interesting that people are so guarded with their emotions when the words they chose were their own
