Commencement speech delivered by the keynote speaker Ellen DeGeneres at Tulane University was to congratulate, motivate and deliver a powerful message to the Tulane 2009 graduates. The ceremony was a year after Hurricane Katrina devastation. Ellen was born and raised in New Orleans and she came back to her hometown to talk to “Hurricane class” which suffered loss after the hurricane. Ellen bonded with them emotionally by telling a tragic story of her girlfriend being killed in the accident. Ellen shares that before she became successful, her life had been a complete loss; she didn’t know what to do with her life. She tells the graduates about her ‘discussion with God’ after her girlfriend passed away.
