The registry room was nicknamed “The Great Hall” because it was so big. Most of the immigrants had never seen a room as big in their entire life.The waiting area had long metal rails to keep the lines as orderly as possible and under control. The majority of people had to wait hours upon hours waiting to get there medical/legal examination. After they got their results they would got the news on it, they get to pass through of if they have to make thier way back home.
After being inspected and receiving permission to leave the island, immigrants could arrange ways to get back home. They could buy train tickets on the island and return to their homeland. Some immigrants didn't wanna go back home so they traveled all around New York. Immigrants got good food they have been waiting for. They traded their money in, and went back to their normal life.
Ellis Island today to recognize the role that Ellis island played in American history, the main building was fixed up and is now the Ellis Island immigration museum. It also happens to be a part of the Statue of Liberty national monument. Covering three floors and about 200,000 square feet, the museum tells the story of the immigrants who entered America. There are tons of exhibits for visitors to see. The American immigrant wall of honor exhibits the name of 600,000 men and women who passed through Ellis island. Their is also a History center where you can find ships that enter, and even the people that were their if you wanna find stuff about your ancestry.
