There she is. The prettiest girl in school. My best friend since forever. Elsie Sheinfeld. She’s the typical “pretty girl” in school, and I am typically the boy a girl like her would never date. Being stereotypical, she, of course, is dating the “pretty boy” of our school: Niall Cullen. People say that secondary school is nothing like it is in the movies, but it is so much worse than the movies. Elsie and I have watched every high school movie known to man, and Bridgewell Academy is so much more overwhelming, stressful and more importantly; cliche.
For the record, I am totally over the fact that I will never, ever in a million years get to date, Elsie. However, I am not going to let that stop us from having the best experience two best friends could have throughout this wormhole called our school. These, in fact, are our names. Well technically not our literal names or that would be bizarre, but the meanings of our names. I believe mine is far more regal than Elsie’s, but she seems to think that being a field is “a step into the hippie kingdom”. It’s kind of been our thing, meanings of names. Every single person we have met we learn the meaning of and see if their meaning matches up with the person.
Niall, for example, means ‘champion’ and as he is the rugby captain that fits. Our fellow Cherry Lane inhibitor, Olivia, has a name meaning ‘olive’ in Spanish or ‘peace’ in Latin, which again fits as she is quiet and doesn’t want any arguments with people (the peacemaker as you will) and she is also olive-skinned as her father is from Greece. Elsie is beautiful, and I am clearly ‘God’s Gift’ and I want to make sure everyone I care about is
