With-in the Emergent Leadership Issues chapter of Course 15 there is a concept called the 4-Dimentions of Wellness. In those dimensions of wellness are 4 areas that should be worked on. Those areas are emotional, physical, spiritual and social wellness. I value this concept because I have dealt with many Airmen myself who were lacking in these areas and I have certainly struggle with a few areas of wellness. For me it is important to understand how to make each area stronger in order to be ready to performance the mission at a moment’s notice. It is also important for me as a leader to ensure my team is ready to go at a moment’s notice and having all areas of wellness squared away certainly helps with that.…
Yulk (2010, p.23) asserts that experts have come up with many definitions and theories of leadership to better understand and explain the concept so members of organizations and society can be effective leaders. Yulk adds that there is no single correct definition of leadership. Nonetheless, it is of chief concern to understand leadership and the various approaches that can be applied to different situations. Organizational behavior comes into play to aid management in enhancing their understanding of human behavior within organizations to better communicate, allocate resources, delegate tasks, plan, organize, direct, and control work activities. The main purpose of understanding organizational behavior is to increase leadership effectiveness, motivate workers, and inspire them to work toward a common objective. Although there are many leadership approaches, we will focus on the situational leadership approach. We will analyze the purpose, strengths and weaknesses of the situational leadership approach, and provide an example of how it can be applied to real situations.…
The purpose of this paper is to analyze a great business leader of today. In this study, I will defend, in my belief, why Lawrence Page is an effective leader.…
In society, as well as the Marine Corps. good leaders are not born, but made. They are molded and shaped by the challenges and strifes in there life. If a person has the desire and willpower, he can become an effective leader. Good leaders develop through a never ending process of self-study, education, training, and experience.…
Is leadership a mysterious gift that some are born with? Is it a skill you can learn and hone with practice? Or does the truth lie somewhere in between? Should organisations look to recruitment or training – or something else (e.g. changing their culture, structure or incentive system) – to foster high-calibre leadership?…
There are many different opinions on how a person becomes a great leader. One view is that leaders are born. They are gifted with the ability to be natural role-models and have the capability to cause others to want to follow them. Another view is that there is no way a person is just born with leadership ability. Instead, people learn from others and develop leadership abilities through trial and error. The most sensible view, however, is leaders are a combination of the two, they are both born with a leadership mentality and have also learned, from other great leaders, skills which they use to become a great leader. In addition, great leaders must have the desire to want to leader others. It is not reasonable to believe that a great leader can not have both some innate abilities as well as some sound training in leadership.…
When a simple question of whether a leader is born or made, it is the answer of two-thirds of a group that say leaders are made. Most back up their answer with made through training, and experience in the certain field. Leaders as it relates in policing have the mindset that the leadership quality is something that is built into the character of an officer as early as their training in the police academy. With time being a distinct factor, the longer one waits to be promoted into such a role can have catastrophic consequences. The consequences can result from that individual waiting and in that time burning bridges with co-workers and those within the community as well.…
Throughout this semester I have learned a lot about the inner workings of leadership and teamwork. I have had experience with leadership and teamwork while performing makeup supervisor duties prior to my apprenticeship. Business 112 gave me a different perspective about working with people and engaging a team. While performing the team project I found myself using various ILead principles. These principles guided my actions and steered me in the right direction. Something else that helped me stay focused was setting goals and allowing others to know my personal expectations. Overall, I believe that Business 122 helped me understand the tools needed to be an effective leader.…

I believe that there is such a thing as natural born leaders that are innately gifted with the knack of leading others but most have to work extremely hard at it. Whether you’re born a leader or not, everyone can benefit from training and from consciously working to improve their effectiveness. Leadership skills can also diminish over time, as well. It requires constant effort to maintain proficiency, especially if you go long periods without leading anyone. Leadership improvement is a continuous process and the best leaders take an active role in developing it within themselves and…
Leadership is inspiring and influencing people around you as a leader, it is a verb not a noun in other words leadership is an action. My leadership philosophy based on five foundations: building relationship, leading by example, selfless service, creating leaders not followers and communication.…
There are some concepts about leadership in the world, some people think leaders are born, and some people believe that leaders are made. If employees believe that leaders are born and not made, it may be demoralising. Some people may have the inherent qualities to become leaders, but they may not have developed their leadership because nobody else has ever noticed potential leadership qualities in them. Leaders move out of comfort zones.…
Module 7 is centered around leadership’s ability to influence subordinate behaviors. We are tasked as leaders to develop our subordinates so that they are ready for future leadership roles. This involves discipline, honing full range leadership skills, effective communication, and the ability to positively affect others. For these reasons, I believe Wingman Concept discussed in Emergent Leadership Issues is the most valuable lesson principle from module 7. The Wingman Concept stems from the flying community, as lead pilots would never lose his or her wingman (Course 15). Metaphorically, this same relationship exists between the leader (pilot) and the follower (wingman). Now that I have established what the Wingman Concept is all about, let’s explore why I feel this is important.…
I've always trusted that great leaders bred, not born. Leadership is a quality where a person stands out and take the responsibility not only for himself/herself but for the others and bring positive energy for others. A good leader can be shown through his/her ability in thinking, creativity, innovation, warring. On top of that, a good leader not only have to be impartial towards his/her follower but respected by all his/her…
There are varying opinions about leadership. Nonetheless, there are many who believe leadership is exemplified by certain traits, which are presumed to make a person an effective leader. These characteristics include things such as attractiveness, intelligence, expressiveness, and being able to speak well. These individuals are often identified as a 'born leader.' However, the idea of leadership also includes a process, or the leader's actual performance. If one focuses on process, rather than being concerned with personal characteristics, leadership can be taught.…
