If one day technology all together decided to stop working, we will all be lost. If our watching stop ticking, do we know as human beings how to tell time by the sun. Additionally, to our dependents on technology, we also depend heavy on other inventions, such as cars, fans, notebooks, calculators, etc. Emerson’s stated that, “The civilized man has built a coach, but has lost the use of his feet. He is supported on crutches, but lacks so much support of muscle.” Emerson’s talks about how as individuals we lose the things that makes us who we are as individuals, and it also makes us less independent. There is this quote from someone unknown that my grandma used to tell me all the time. It reads “Don’t lean on others; you don’t need to. You were born with two feet for a reason.” This quote was something I think Emerson was trying to imply in the quote, and throughout his essay.
