Marshall Bruce Mathers III, better known by his stage name ‘Eminem’ is a well renowned rapper, songwriter and record producer. His formal career commenced in 1999 from the release of The Slim Shady LP which was accommodated amongst the most popular albums of the year, going triple platinum by the end of 1999. Before he gained fame, his talent was recognized by Dr. Dre, founder of Aftermath Entertainment when he took possession of a recording of Eminem’s work. It was sent to him by the

Dr. Dre faced criticism from associates for hiring a white rapper in a black dominated industry, but he maintained confidence in his decision which proved to be very successful as Eminem’s career advanced forward. His second album, The Marshall Mathers LP was released in May 2000 sold an astonishing figure of 1.76 million copies in its first week breaking 2 records, of the fastest selling hip hop album and the fastest selling solo album in the history of the United States. The album also included his song ‘Stan’ in which Eminem attempts to deal with his newfound fame, taking on the persona of a deranged fan who kills himself and his pregnant girlfriend.
