Emmett Till Research Paper

Emmett Till was a 14 year old African American boy living in Chicago with his mother Mamie Till. He went to visit his relatives of Money, Mississippi with his uncle Mose Wright, not realizing how serious racial prejudice was in the South. During his visit, Emmett was accused of harassing a local white woman and several days later he was abducted by the relatives of the local white woman, Roy Bryant and J.W. Milam. They brutally beat and killed Emmett before dumping his body into a nearby river. This event played an immense role in the Civil Right Movement. There are many factors that contributed to making the murder of Emmett Till's pivotal moment in civil rights history, but the most significant factors that contributed to the impact of this event were the all white jury, how the media portrayed this event, and the actions taken by Mamie Till. The jury for the Emmett Till murder trial was made up of all white males and they acquitted Roy Bryant and J.W. Milam of all charges. The jury knew that they were going to rule the men not guilty so they remained in their conference room for a longer period of time to make it look believable. The black people involved in this trial were outraged because they did not get the fair trial that they deserved. This was the last straw for most blacks
