Nowadays, “employee relations” appear everywhere, from small companies to the big organisations in all over the world. According to CIPD, employee relations is an underlying philosophy, along with necessary attitudes and skills, rather than a specific management function or well-defined activity.
In fact, there are many problems existing in any firms or organisations. One of these which is considered by human management department is employee relations. Employee relations which used to be known as “industrial relations” in the past investigates the relationship between employers and employees in organisation in general. This relation may significantly affect the productivity as well as the working environment in organisations. That is the reason why it is necessary to study about this subject. It can be seen that the better relation between employer and employees, the better performance can be obtained. Furthermore, it points out any possible problems arising from working process and provides general suggestions to deal with these. It is very useful to manage and improve performance of both employees and firms.
There are many theories and models which this research investigates such as:
Firstly, “works dominates the lives of most men and women” (Blyton and Turnbull, 2004, p3). Most people who work are labours rather than managers, works are the most importance for them. Therefore, they want to be appreciated and treated fairly and clear about the authority of the managers in directing them, as well as their rights and obligations.
Secondly, “the management of employees, both individually and collectively, remain a central feature of an organisation life” (Blyton and Turnbull, 2004, p3). Despite of many technological development, a workforce still play an important role to decide the success of the organization in long-term.
